The PS2 suffered from some of the same problems as the PS3, no game selection. but both of those systems where the only system in the game at the time. This time however is a little different. They do have competition. So even though the low numbers may be the same as it was in the same time frame of the other systems, being low now really matters...a lot. Another thing to mention, the PS2 got some system selling games that took them over the top in the second year, GTA3, FF etc. right now it doesn't look like there are any system sellers anytime soon for the PS3...unless a game takes us by surprise. While the 360 just released Bioshock, which is huge, with Halo3 and Mass effect still to come. GTA4, while still a system seller, is going to be released on both the PS3 and 360 at the same time, and the longer it takes for that game to release, the worse it is for the PS3 as long as the numbers continue to fall further behind the 360. MGS5 is really the only sure thing system seller that is being released (barring any surprised). The PS3 still outselling the 360 is a saving grace for Sony, but it means absolutely nothing for the PS3 The PS1 and PS2 took a while to take off.
