Looks fairly accurate to me.

I’ve been reading AVS forums for several years now. They have a *lot* of polls in the HD forums. The Facebook poll pretty matches the results of almost all of them.

Snazzy name won’t be the main factor. A lot of people still don’t understand that both HD DVD and Blu-ray will happily play their existing DVDs. But more people know that about HD DVD than know it about Blu-ray, because the name HD DVD makes the link with DVD obvious. Thus, the name HD DVD conjures up something they’re already familiar with.

Those who take a closer interest in such matters will be aware that HD DVD is not only cheaper but lacks region codes (so far!) whereas Blu-ray is well known for its region codes and DRM. Moreover, HD DVD has the advantage of being the underdog (something which a lot of people always find appealing), because people also know that Blu-ray currently has the edge sales-wise. Hence the support for HD DVD.

The PS3 is not dead. Blu Ray is not dead. HD DVD is not dead. XBOX 360 is about to have a freaking huge fall.

Is it possible that the two DVD formats can coexist?

At this point all I care about is that one format succeeds before the “HD” disc format is rendered obsolete. What I can not understand is why there are a handful of people (almost always HD DVD fangirls) who get all bent out of shape when the PS3 is brought into discussion over which technology will prevail.

The PS3 functions as a Blu-Ray player…that’s all there is to it, so get over it. There are plenty of people using the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player because when released, it was the most affordable Blu-Ray player available and it’s quality wasn’t too shabby either. Why the hell wouldn’t people take the PS3 into consideration when comparing the sales of Blu-Ray disc and player sales. Do you think the people at Toshiba are going through their numbers and saying…”Oh wait! Frank, this is all wrong…you included figures that were based on people who are using the PS3 to drive their disc sales and we don’t count those.” pffft…stupid wars bring about stupid people

the funny thing about your response is that it proves that w/o ps3 blu ray is dead. the poll is soley about hd dvd and BD, it does not mention ps3, but you decided to bring them into the argument. BD will not win b/c once sony starts to make some decent games then ps3 owners will actually use the gaming system for gaming, whoa thats a cool idea.

Many young people feel sour towards Sony and Blu-Ray because of the PS3’s pricing. Young adults on the other hand have more money to them and have no problem paying $600 for a video game system. This isn’t so much that they like HD DVD, but rather they don’t like Sony. I’m sure only a small fraction of the people that responded even have a HiDef player of either format.
