The N-Gage application is a relatively cheap way of adding a common gaming platform across its higher end mobile range. It should encourage better games from better publishers.

Hard core gamers will still go for a dedicated console, but for those just selecting a cell phone this may be another factor to tip the balance in Nokia's favour.

First off, the Ps2 was underpowered compared to the Gamecube (unless you count the dvd player)
Second, unless more publishers come on board (capcom cannot sustain them solely) this may end up failing again (though not to the extreme as last time, at least in the U.S.)

If they have too many phones, there would be too wide a range of features publishers would have to support. Some games could be touch screen, but then you can't use them on a non-supported device. Also the button placement would be different on every phone, meaning you can't make a good UI. (hello 2, 4, 8, 6, 5) The iPhone shows that least common denominator software doesn't cut it. But then again the N-Gage wasn't that successful. The new "n-gage" platform will look more like existing cell-phone games then a platform like the "Game Boy". Popular games will only work on a few "n-gage" phones leading to confusion.

How will they get this to work?

Who wants to play real games (not cards or Tetris) on a cell phone? I understand the want to carry as little crap as possible - but if you want to game is it that hard to put a DS or PSP in your pocket? You cannot tell me that the new N-GAGE will have anywhere near the games that the PSP or DS has - so why even bother. Nokia should stick to making phones and leave games to the people who do them best - Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft.
