Google Phone: The Plot Thickens
by Ilya Kochanov on September 3, 2007

We’ve been hearing a lot about the Google phone lately but no one was anywhere near sure about what the device is capable of. The phone will be based on a Linux platform with a UI written entirely in Java, but don’t expect anything fancy as it’s pretty ordinary. Some other functionality such as a browser similar to that of the iPhone, and some multimedia jazz are also expected. Supposedly the device is going to be manufactured by HTC and will look pretty damn similar to the Dash. I’m gonna go ahead and give this an unimpressed ‘meh’.

Five Facts About Google Phone [GigaOM]

  • If the GPhone exists it will be dubbed the iPhone killer in histroy books of mobile technology. A church in Texas is posting anti-iPhone slogans on it’s billboard in favor of the GPhone. Is it possible that a new mobile technology savior is lurking on the horizon for all mankind?

  • Whatever becomes of the GPhone I am sure Verizon will not pick it up. They aren’t “cool” enough nor as forward thinking enough to think that maybe their customers might want something similar to the iPhone. I just got my new phone via “New every 2″ most of the phones they offered were discontinued. Of course I didn’t find that out until I went to an actual store to buy a case and they had them in their “bargain basement”. THE ONLY REASON THAT I DON’T HAVE AN IPHONE NOW IS THAT I WOULD HAVE TO SWITCH TO AT&T!!! AT&T is simply not worth it!

  • Google have the money, good techs, but they do not have Steve… but G Phone if they are doing it, I’ll grab a good market, just because the big G have lot’s of fans…
