The Awesome Auger Is So Awesome It’s Awesome

Last week, Nick and I were chilling at my crib, watching a little Time-Warner cable when this commercial with Billy Mays came on. He was advertising a product called the Awesome Auger, a groundbreaking (literally) tool that helps break up ground so you can plant flowers easier.

Now at first, this wasn’t looking too hot. You have to attach the Auger to a drill to use it. I don’t have a drill, but hey, might as well keep watching. Nick and I became amazed as we saw ground being torn up with such ease, that we had to have one. Lucky for us, Billy was feeling good today. He also said he’d include the Weed Auger for pulling out weeds, the Ground Auger for my flower-boxes, and the 18-inch Power Extender so I didn’t have to bend down every time I wanted to drill a hole in some dirt.

At this point, this deal was unbelievable. We were offered a special deal of $19.99 + shipping and we’d be proud owners of an Awesome Auger. BUT WAIT! Billy said he’d include something else if we called IMMEDIATELY: The Bonus Power Drill. That’s right. For $20, you can get a power drill plus some shit for your garden, making the Awesome Auger the most awesome deal ever. Nick and I were about to order, when our pizza came. Needless to say, we never got to experience the true power of the Auger.

  • Add up the cost of shipping the “free” drill, and you can go buy one for less. Other than that, it works.

  • (warning) please do not buy this auger thing for it’s just a way to still your money i allready report them to the better bussines bureau i hope they take it off th market

  • My wife bought one. The total price (the drill is NOT included) was near $60.

Took six weeks, and three phone calls. It came today
    1-3″ auger
    1-4″ auger
    1-corded 120v drill, 3/8″ vsr, keyless chuck.
NO extension, or the pin to fit it.

She calles again. They said the cordless drill and the extension would be sent out- another three weeks.

Go to A.M.Leonard and get the auger. Go to HarborFreight tools for the drill of your choice. Cheaper, quicker, and without the hassle.

  • I ordered the auger. I was to receive the drill, extender, and weed
auger. I received only one pkg. and it only had 4 rods, and a pin.
My order # was S23399370001. Will someone please call me at
(765)942-2804. Do not give my phone number to anyone else,
I am on a no call list.
I tried to call the phone number listed on internet, but it does not work.
    Thank you,
    Linda Cox

  • just received the “auger” waited 6 weeks for this piece of crap, don’t buy

  • These people are ROBBERS !!!!! You can NOT talk to a person on the phone or email them…..Do not order from them. They make their money off of “shipping and processing ” fees.

  • My wife wanted this devise after seeing it on TV. I went on line to place the order, found it was very easy to order additional items by mistake. When the ordering process was at the last page I noticed I had by accident ordered an additional auger. Now I have purchased several items over the internet and I am satisfied with the other sites I’ve used. One thing they all had in common was the opportunity to review and confirm my order. NOT SO with the Awesome Auger. The final page that itemizes your order thanks you for your order and your ordered has been processed. I called the customer service number listed on the site to get my order corrected, waited over 20 minutes with no response. I would like to note that the S&H was more than double the product price.
Given the number of complaints I’ve seen so far about this product and the company, I will never purchase product related to this company, i.e. presented by Billy Mays, if that is his name.

  • if you watched the commercial closely the awesome auger actually breaks while it is being used!!!!what are you thinking if you spend 19.95 plus fees for a piece of nothing awesome at all.period.

  • this was not what i ordered ,, twice as expensive that is on line,, cannot find a mailing address ,, junk ,,,, gene

  • this is not what is advizersise on line ,, and cost twice as much ,,, no mailing address can be found to contact theese people ,,,, gene ,,, very bad

  • I am very happy I thought to read the comments. I was excited about ordering one. Thanks for saving me unnecessary frustration and disappointment.

  • Ordering the Awesome Auger is an Awesome Nightmare…although I will say that the drill itself and two augers I received have worked well and have saved a lot of effort in the garden. The drill I received is not the one advertised. I did not receive the extender, although the pin arrived to attach it to auger! My $19.95 order ended up costing me $53. YOU GET NO CONFIRMATION OF CHARGES BEFORE YOU ARE DISCONNECTED. You can’t get to a “warm body” on the other end! Billy Mays has no credibility and the company should be put out of business. Must be run from someone’s basement…in the dark of night!! STAY AWAY FROM THE AWESOME AUGER.

    • You got off cheap Jeanne. Mine cost 81.75 and they said it was because the cordless drill did not come with it. It was pitched as coming with it however. No one should buy anything like this.
      Bruce

  • I was charged $116.43 for one auger instead of $19.95.I haven’t received anything as yet and called my credit card company to warn them that I will not be paying for this article if it ever arrives. They are involved in a big fraud and I’m just lucky that I happened to see the emails from other vicitims that weren’t so lucky and actually paid for the auger. I wrote the BBB and the Federal Consumer affairs group tonight. The next time I see the ad on TV I’m going to call the station to complain.

  • Thank you for your comments. I almost purchased this thing and your experiences stopped me.

  • This crap is made in MEXICO and is packaged by MEXICANS!!! So much for cheap labor!

  • finally got my order with not extension like the ad says also sent a corded drill not a cordless drill. reported to BBB. if you read this DO NOT buy it is a scam all the way. if you try to call you get bounced around with pushing numbers. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well, I got suckered in too. I paid 52.80 for 2 awesome augers. No drill, no extention and no pin. Boy I wish I had run across this site before I ordered. I am disabled and can’t get down on my knees to operate this think. I can’t believe that Billy Myers has endorsed this THING.

  • I’ve ordered a product like this, ONCE…the pedegg. I was leary, since it never said the s&h. When I got the confirmation, the PegEgg cost about $50!!!
If you cancel your credit card…or call and put a hold on it, the charge won’t go thru. I received a letter from the company about 3 weeks later telling me to resubmit my order.
    It’s inconvenient…but at least I felt I hadn’t been scammed.

If you can’t confirm the order total before actually placing it, they’re hiding something.

  • I Got The Drill And Auger But The Pin That Holds The Too Together Is Missing Would You Please Send Me The Pin Are The Auger Is Useless? Thank You Bob

  • I Just Looked At The Augers And They are The Same I Think They are the bottom Part,So Now What Do I Do? Get back To Me So I Know What To Do?Thanjk Yo Again Bob

  • I was shocked to say the least to see that I had been charged $94 for two awesome augers. When I called to see why so much I was told that it was $19.95 for each auger and $19.95 for shipping for each and the total was $94 for two items.

Please understand your advertisement is totally misleading and I will be telling everyone I know about “truth-in-lending” misinformation.

If these items have not been shipped please cancel!

    Wayne Manning

  • You had better check the real cost. I was fooled in believing the drill was free and the extention was free. Imagine my surprise when I puchased two sets thinking the cost would $19.95 twice and instead of around $40 it was $92.70.

In my opinion, the slickest advertising to date. At least I now know how they can sell it so cheap?

Someone great once said, “there’s one born every minute/”

  • To whom can we submit a complaint about this outrageous scam? What they are doing to the public should be illegal. Just sign me another sucker!

  • I purchased to awesome augers, one for myself and one for my sister, when I got them I tried to put mine together and only one of the augers would fit the drill, the others were to big, I got the 2 augers, 2 drills and 2 extender packages, the total for the products were $39.90, and the shipping and handling was $113.70, when I called their customer service, I was told that they would send out replacements but they wanted me to send the defective ones back at my cost, when I said no they finally agreed to credit my card $10.00 for the shipping, I told them I would check with the post office and if it was $10.00 or less I would send it back, otherwise no, I also told them that I was going to report this to the NY State Attorney General, they were not very happy hearing that, and said they would send the replacements, whether I sent the defective ones back or not. I am still going to report them to the BBB and the Atttorney General of NY State and maybe others should do the same to stop this scam.

  • I love my computer and rust to put questions into it! I have ordered things from the tv and on line before…

I have a friend that loves to garden…and she was having problems with her back….and feeling bad for her…on the tv pops the awesome auger and in my sad state I picked up the phone and dialed….why oh why did I do that without run to my computer…..

That recorded voice, that answers no questions….

I will never ever order things that have no shipping cost and you can’t ask this voice!

The next day my mind opened up and I am on the customer service line for a long time and I am not going to give up…
well here comes a live person on the line…we have to have more time your order has not been worked on we need 24 hours…

I got the package the next day…..A drill will a cord to use in a garden that you water? o.oo cost ship 19.95

    the set – 2pcs 3″ and 4″ what ever!!!!!!! cost 19.95 ship 6.95.
    Total 50.50

    and no free gifts…..nothing!

Calling them just pissed, me off more….
it’s going to cost me to ship the thing back, but keep the drill, I am a female and I have two great drills….this thing is a toy!!!!! and they will send me 19.95 only…the balance is shipping and handling….RIGHT!

They made it bad to the real companies with good things to sell!

  • The idea behind the auger is a good one.I almost bought one,but I went on line and read a lot of letters complaining about the bad treatment from the company creeps.Everybody,Go to walmart or any hardware store and buy a 1 and one half inch woodboreing bit and an extention rod total cost about eight dollars,Visit yo0ur grandfather,Borrow his drill,He doesnt use it HE’LL never know its missing. And he’ll enjoy seeing you….I just used mine for pulling weeds and loosening the soil around my plants,,,MAKE YOUR OWN,,,,

  • Glad to see all these comments…Guess it just goes to show “If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.”

  • I ordered the Awesome Auger and to my dismay learned that it cost me $68.50. I specifically told the customer service rep I was not interested in any of the other items. Even though the item was shipped to my house I received notification that they attempted to deliver and left a notice. I contacted the post office and made arrangements for delivery on Saturday. I was home all day and they did not show up. I received my statement wherein it showed my account was debited on October 14, 2008. In addition, I read all the negative comments about the product from consumers who purchased your products. I explained to Jessie that I did not order those items and was told we can reship at no cost or can credit your account for the $19.95. I told her I did not order those items and requested that they listen to my conversation with the customer service rep. I am going to locate the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint along with the tv station that highly recommends this man and his products. I am going to request an interview with them so I can voiced my opinion as to why they should no longer advertise for this company. You midlead the consumers; never tell them the amount that is being shipped and contact the attorney general’s office to see if this is legal. If it takes me 10 years to get my money back, I will prevail.

  • could someone please send me the address to return this piece of crap. i can not read the one on the box it came in. i don’t want to open the box for fear they might say they will not give me my money back because the box has been opened. thank you
    alice

  • I almost bought this as it looks like a good idea for those who like to garden. Thanks to the comments I happened to see, I am steering clear of this. I own a cordless drill and will buy a auger from some hardware store. Lucky I happened to see this web site.

  • Thank you all so very much for your comments!!
You just saved me a bundle!!
I was trying to get on the Auger website to buy it when I found this page, Thank God!!!
I’m now going to Menards to buy the woodboring bit and extention thank to Sam!!! So thank you everyone!!!!

    • Thanks to everyone who left their comments about the Auger. I am such a sucker when I see these commercials. I keep thinking, “oh, that looks like it would really help me.” Slowly, I’ve learned to check rating first and then I know what’s good and what’s not. I had a feeling about this since I was scammed with The Magic Bullet in the same type of fashion. You go to the website and somehow end up ordering 2 items with weird extras that you didn’t want. You think you haven’t hit the submit button and that you can go back and adjust your order and you can’t. So thanks everyone…and sorry you guys got screwed. I did end up getting all my money back with the Magic Bullet, but it took a lot of work and calling my credit card company and the BBB in the city that was selling the Magic Bullet. I documented all my phone calls with time, date, and person I spoke to. Granted they never wanted to give me their name…so I had to FORCE them to give me their “ID” #. They hate when you do that. I also left numerous messages on VM for the supervisors who were NEVER on the floor when I called. I finally had a whole page of documentation which I sent to the Attorney General. When I let them know I was doing that things went much quicker! Good luck everyone in getting your money back and again thanks for the warning about this too good to be true tool.

  • Thank you people so much because if I hadn’t read your comments forst I was ready to purchase one. Why is it that everything that looks so good on TV does not always work well. I wish someone would put a stop to these so-called scams and put something out there that works for a change.

  • I watched the info commercial and thought how great this tool would be but before I could pickup the phone a thought wait a minute this is on TV and is too good to be true. I had learned a valuable lesson years ago with O’l Slick Billy. I hung up the phone and started to look at reviews. Please people as long as there are people who believe this crap then others will be scammed. Stop the madness and DO NOT I repeat DO NOT order ANYHING I mean ANYTHING from info commercials. There is not a single I mean a SINGLE one that is worth the hassle. If you can’t touch it and can’t return it don’t buy it…. If you do after you have read this then they deserve all you give them and the headace that comes with it. Don’t be a complusive buyer. Also buy a tool with a name such as DeWalt or Craftsman and be prepaired to spend more than $20.00 on it too. I will leave you with this ol saying. “A fool and his money will soon part” oh and there is one born every minute.

  • ok to say one thing DONT GET THIS! I PROMISE THIS IS PURE SHIT, JUST DONR WAIST YOUR MONEY ON ANY OF IT, ITS ALL A SCAM AND THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY

  • Thanks to this website and the comments I did not make the same mistake as others. Great Job!

  • Wish I had read your comments before I ordered. What a scam! Now there are several products on TV that I simply wont order, but wait, don’t order now and I wont get screwed! Other products I wont order include the Tomato tree. Hey Tomato Tree, help us put these suckers out of business. I got ripped off for more than twice the quoted price.

    Al

  • Oh so just because your pizza arrived, you never experienced using an Awesome Auger?

Yeahhhh mannnn…..have another hit off yer bong, dude.

  • <>

Too late – you just gave your phone number to the world.

  • I too wish I had done more research but I’m doing gardening and it looked good. Well $172 later I’m feeling like such a fool. The web page never gives you a total and just says thanks for the oder, you can’t get a person until two days later and then they say it is shipped. Credit card company says they can’t do anything until after you return it. Lot of good that will do because S&H are not refundable and $120 of the charges are S&H. I’m posting everywhere I can to try to help prevent someone else throwing away hard earned money on these thieves. Next to the BBB and state attorney, maybe someday someone will do something about this type of scam,

    • yep! I remember that with the Magic Bullet. I didn’t even think the order went through since they never gave me a total…then I get this random e-mail saying my order had shipped and I was like NO WAY…I x-ed out before I hit the submit button and I never got a confirmation e-mail stating the charge went through….

they wait long enough to say it shipped then you’re screwed since it’s on it’s way…and if you refuse shipment then you’re screwed another way…

  • nothing do my husband but order one of these now that it has arrivied and he seen the cost he is irrate and wants it returned. I am calling the credit card co. to cancel, and sending it back. People should be put in jail for doing this.
