I just read a nice portion of that wikipedia entry on Dave Mustaine. . . . never knew all that about him. I want to believe that Microsoft has had a brilliant plan this whole time. I want to believe that the original 30gb Zune was akin to a half-assed market test. I mean - they have a great looking UI, and the device itself is designed nicely. They're just not fighting to win, it would seem. So here's hoping the original Zune was tossed out there to get a read on interest and hear some feedback. . . . Feedback that they will hopefully respond to with an effective precision - and a few positive surprises along the way. But what are the chances, really. Nice freaking analogy.
