I tried playing Guitar Hero once and I embarrassed myself in front of half a dozen or so people at Best Buy. In real life, I can actually play the guitar. Not well, mind you, but I can keep a tune. We all know Macs have been lacking in gaming for quite some time and I’m not much of a fan of Harry Potter, but I’m without a doubt anticipating the release of Guitar Hero III for the Mac sometime in October or November. Aspyr will be tuning versions for both PC and Mac that will ship with a USB guitar. I cannot wait. No word from Aspyr about price or shipping date.

  • I’m not sure I can think of many games less suited to a Mac or PC.

Computers are for in the office, or study. They sit on a desk, you sit on a chair, and you operate them with a keyboard and mouse. The idea of standing in front of a desk with a toy guitar is just ridiculous.

Keep games to the lounge, or bedroom, and play them on a console.

The only games I think are at all suited to computers are things like Sim City or Theme Park. I never understand PC owners going on about Macs not having any games – so what?! I don’t want games on my Mac, I have a Wii and a PS2, and a DS and a PSP for games, why on earth would I want games on a devices not suited to them which I keep in a place entirely unsuitable for playing games in?

  • Guitar Hero is very much a social kind of gaming experience. It’s a party game. Playing it by yourself is fine (I’ve done it plenty of times) but there’s no better way to play this game than on a big screen, through a cranked stereo system, in an open space with a bunch of friends around to cheer on the performances. Playing Guitar Hero on a computer is like rocking out with a suit and tie on. Where’s the soul?!
