Kirk McElhearn hates the new iPod interface and he goes as far as saying that it’s Apple’s stupidest interface innovation ever. Wow. I’m not too fond of it based on my experience with the Nano, but he really hates it. Trying to read text with moving images is annoying and the option to turn it off would be appreciated. I personally could care less about the album art feature. I still don’t watch videos, very rarely store pictures and I don’t purchase music, which is why my collection is sans album covers. Kirk has found that if you shut off the album art the interface speeds up. I’m with you on this, Kirk. Do you guys like it?
It’s Official: Apple’s Stupidest Interface Innovation Ever [Kirkville]

Actually, it sounds like you couldn’t care less, but I digress. The floating album art is a bit distracting, but I dig the idea of it. Just make it fixed in place. Apple needs to do a better job of grabbing album art to make Cover Flow useful. For example, I have an 80s compilation (Left of the Dial) on my new nano, and songs from the first disc have the cover art, but songs from discs 2-4 do not. Why? Of course, since you don’t purchase from the iTMS, that means you ripped everything from CD, right (of course you did), so you have no excuse not to have cover art.
They should have taken a page out of the Zune book (hear me out guys). The Zune displays the cover art in the background behind the text. The background art is displayed at what looks like half brightness.
^I must agree. The new ipods may look a lot sleeker but they have a lot of learning to do from the Zune.
I have to agree I just want my music and I don’t use video, though album art is a nice feature but not as necessary as the album info.
What is really annoying about iPod / apple is-‘they don’t give a rat’s arse about you’.
if your product goes wrong you have had it, they will try everything to not give you a new iPod.
Their software has ruined many thousands of shuffles and there only suggesting to me and my friends was ‘we suggest you upgrade’.
God help anyone who has a problem with their device in the UK, apple are terrible, massive surprise for a BIG company.
But what can we expect from the USA all gloss and no standards, just look at the iphone….joke, just like the iPod it does what the manufacturer wants not what the customer wants.
They should take a leaf out of Microsoft’s book the Xbox had a problem and now everyone gets a 3 year warranty.
Apple sucks!!
