Ponoko: A Funny Word That Will Make Your Dreams Come True

Don’t ask me what Ponoko is, was, or isn’t, but I signed up to be a Beta user. Actually, I do know what it is, so I guess I’m obligated to tell you. The clip I posted to the right pretty much sums it up. Let’s say you have a great idea, but you have no means of producing it or making a prototype. Well, with Ponoko you send in said idea and they make it for you or make the parts for you. From there you can tweak things around or whatever until it’s perfect, IYO, and then you sell through Ponoko. Sounds good in theory, but I’m sure there will be tons of CRAP in the Ponoko showroom.

Hi Peter, cheers for the comment. We’ve just had an amazing few days at TechCrunch 40. And the resulting interest has been simply fantastic. We’re pretty excited about where we’re heading over the next few months (let alone years!) and it’s pretty awesome to have had such an amazing amount of feedback in the past week. At present we’re limited to laser cut products, but we do see the other options (3D printing etc) very much a part of our (not so far in the future) future! Do agree also with your comment re there being a lot of stuff on Ponoko that isn’t for everyone - but I guess that’s why we promote ourselves as ‘personal manufacturing for one’ - as it’s not necessarily making stuff to sell - but is also making stuff for you! So, one man’s gold is another man’s trash etc etc! (or so they say!). At present we’re ‘launching’ our concept, and we’ll grow as our contacts around the world grow - therein being able to offer the production of ‘pretty much anything! Ponoko for all is going to just be a blast! Cheers, Nic - Ponoko Online PR Chick.
