Branded Gphone On Its Way, I Begin Salting and Peppering My Hat

I’ve always said Google won’t launch a branded phone but it seems that Google may launch a branded phone. DigiTimes is reporting that Google is kinda sorta definitely releasing a Gphone but, and this a big but:

[they have] yet to finalize the handset’s specifications, OS, production contractor and operating partners, according to sources at Taiwan handset makers.

This is kind of like saying that space aliens live among us but they ride invisible unicorns and they are invisible themselves. It really toes the line between useful info — HTC and Samsung are working with Google on a branded cellphone application — and pure conjecture. After all, I can say that Apple is making a blender but:

[they have] yet to finalize the handset’s specifications, OS, production contractor and operating partners, according to sources at Taiwan handset makers.

Perhaps I won’t have to eat my hat after all. Until I see blurry spy photos taken with a 5-year-old Treo with someone’s cat in the background, I refuse to believe they’ll produce hardware.

Google Gphone still on the way, say sources [DigiTimes]
