Everybody’s been talking about the so called $100 for about two years now and finally you can get your hands on one. Just as long as you send one to a no good kid as well. Besides the fact that you can get a fairly decent Compaq for about the same price, this is a great idea. It’s a good way for OLPC to get their little green notebook into the hands of technologically deprived kids in developing nations. The premise kinda wears off as the price climbs though considering the upcoming Asus EeePC packs better specs for only $50 more.
You can’t help but wonder if that $200 would be better off providing food and medical care. Then again a life without blogging and lolcats is not one worth living.

How can you compare the features of a Compaq with the charity of giving a revolutionary laptop to someone in the developping world?
Asus EEE costs $399, you won’t find a cheaper EEE for this Christmas unless you are very very lucky handpicked sample customer that will get a one for a fake $260 price. Asus is selling EEE at a loss when it’s sold for $260. Why don’t you do your research instead of reporting that EEE is cheap when it’s not.
Instead of food and medical care those people should be educated about child planning.

I don’t blame you for having this opinion … But that’s the worst thing you can do.
The economy of the so called “third world” is mainly about creating and selling food. Giving them free food will only destroy their local economy.
This is more than a terrible post. What point does it have to call kids “no good” when they are your future.
And maybe you forgot that without knowledge there is no power, there is no richness. All you are doing by giving $400 is helping a Kid in the third world get knowledge. And even though it has been debated that Kids have started to watch porn on those machines, it’s still knowledge! Yes, I do disagree Kids watching porn on a machine that has a tile “Educational”, but I don’t see too big of a problem here. Hmm… maybe Porn sites should just use a different accessibility method, and not post NUDE images all over the place on their Enter – Leave page!

When there are children dying of famine, I’m sure an economy won’t be too affected if we send over a few basic medical supplies and some fresh water.

The upgraded model does however, cost $400 and with that you get double the storage. The base model is still $260. So in comparison the Eee is still a better choice for about 60 bucks more. Granted that 60 dollars will add up once thousands of them are purchased.
Also, I mentioned that the money could be put to better use which it can.

This is old trick that manufacturer starts with good cause but then it’s not. Who will get the money from manufacturing? The factory and ..? Well, it’s easy to think that the good cause will not serve not only the children but some adult. I mean if they want to help why can’t they help from their own pocket? Anyway, justice serve itself. Other company came out with better respond for the customers who are hungry for the next generation cheap model. Asus!! MIT, why won’t you care your neighbors as your body. I meant neighbor near you not millions of miles away. I am in New York City and hungry!
