The 8320 can use GPS via a Bluetooth GPS puck and a T-Mobile Data Plan.

The best solution I have found is the $19.99 Blackberry Unlimited account add-on, used in conjunction with the Freedom 2000 Keychain GPS http://shop.crackberry.com/freedom-keychain-gps-2000/10A95A2869.htm and Google Maps Mobile.

The Curve through t-mobile does have Wi-Fi. I bought the phone over the weekend and works great using tmobile at home.

I read somewhere that it’s a form factor and hardware issue. Both GPS and WiFi are hardware “devices” that take up room in the Curve’s case. Put both and the Curve would have to be larger.

May or may not be true, I’m just saying what I read.

As to WiFi over GPS, I want WiFi and this dual-mode UMA phone. I have been using the hotspot at home service [with a Nokia 6086, which is crap compared to my Pearl].

The last 30 days I used hotspot at home with my router in my house. For the month I used 230 minutes of my 1000 monthly minutes plan. The balance, about 1200 minutes used the hotspot WiFi connection. Those calls were during the day and were FREE.

Previous to hotspot I always had to watch my minutes in the last week or so of the billing period, so I would not go over. On my other T-mo line, she went over last month, to the tune of costing us $264 extra. :(

So give me WiFi over GPS any time. I’d rather talk 24/7 for free [well, $10 a month for the hotspot service] rather than know where I am at when in the car. But that is a matter of personal preference.

And the Curve was something I was looking for, big time. Like I said, the Nokia 6086 was, and is, crap, even at the $100 I paid for it [on eBay]. Once one is used to the Pearl, it is hard to go to a basic phone like the Nokia.

With the Curve I can go back to the Pearl features, plus get the WiFi dual mode, UMA features needed to use hotspot.

I agree, why would I want Wi-Fi over GPS? They put in and take out GPS when every one wants it. I was already to upgrade to the Curve until I found out that T-Mobile took out GPS.

Now I shall wait some more or maybe move to another carrier.

… in one phone. And I’m just not buying the “we can’t fit all that in there” line or “companies won’t allow such a phone”.
