About a week ago, we got to sit down with T-Mobile and play with the Sidekick Slide, Sidekick LX and a few other upcoming devices. Unfortunately, due to an embargo, we couldn’t utter a peep – until today. The Sidekick Slide will be available October 24th, in case you somehow didn’t know, and will cost $199 with a two-year contract. It’s the first time Motorola has tried its hand at the Sidekick and I must say, it’s the best one yet.
The much-brighter LCD is similar to that of the Sidekick LX’s, except smaller. The back has a very polished feel to it and the 1.3-megapixel camera is a tiny bit better than the Sidekick 3’s, but not by much. The new Sidekick interface is loaded, but it’s just the standard fare you’d normally find. IM, Web browsing, messaging, etc. T-Mobile also got the Sidekick Slide to send picture messages, as opposed to sending e-mail with an attachment.
After owning a Sidekick 2 for awhile and eventually a Sidekick 3, I have to say that my vote most certainly goes to the Sidekick Slide. Though the LX has a Sharp Aquos screen, media playback and a longer battery, the Slide is more compact and is beyond thin. It looks professional and the keypad is decent, but not fantastic. I highly suggest picking the Slide over the LX, as you’ll probably have an iPod handy for listening to music. Sorry for no hands on pics, but T-Mobile wouldn’t let us. Autumn people. It’s the season of Sidekick madness.
It’s good and all… but its still running on that wack OS. I don’t like it, but I am a fan of their to-do list. Hmm… I’m going to have to play with it.
I hope the keyboard keys aren’t shiny and bubble-like, as it looks in the image above. One of the main reasons I’ve stuck with sidekick over anything else is their flat, rubber keyboard that allows me to type quickly without my fingers /nails sliding off the keys…..

I was never into the sidekick ever, until now. all the other sidekick look so big to me. but the sidekick 4 is different, Motorola now that is nice! phone look like a better size, and i kno i m getting it but 9 more day to wait. seen like forever
As the product manager for Sidekick Slide, I’d like to point out that Slide has a music player, but you need to insert a microSD card into the device to use it. MicroSD cards up to 4GB are supported.

Will the sidekick slide be able to play videos from youtube or like you able to record your own videos or upload your videos to your new sidekick slide because I have a sdk3 n really sucks that I can’t record videos on it!!!! Dude, T-mobile representatives as well as the marketing manager for Motorolla indicated that the LX is more expensive than the slide, but the slide is the better phone, I know, I own an LX, my wife owns the slide and YES, the slide is the better phone. Sorry racist!

I believe the slide will be better becz its less likely to get ruined cuz it has a slide screen. n its made by motorolla. fr all of u who used sk1,2, n 3.. it was good.. but i’m sure fr ppl who used moto razer n othr motorola phones can rely on them.. it might have a smaller screen but overall my instincts telling me tht the sk slide will be better (money wise n long lasting).. i hope it is true.. i’ve seen n played with the sk lx (sk 4), its very nice n i love it.. just waiting till Nov 7th fr it to come out.. then i’ll be able to make a better decision. its always good to do research n go to cnet.com to read n view reviews before purchasing any phones.. good luck.. just dont make any sudden decisions.. i knw we all r excited n cant wait to get it.. but just think if is gonna pay u bk.. n how reliable is it.. then play with it.. n see if it works n funcitons properly. think of its use rather then its style.. then u’ll be able to make sound decisions. i think the sidekick slide is a lill cheaper cuz of the resoultion. otherwise everything else is the same frm the sk4.. sk slide’z resolution is 320×240 n the sk4 is 400×240.. but the main thing should not be the size of the screen but the quality n function of the phone.. which to me is the slide..
i guess the slide is cheaper cuz it has a 320×240 resoultion whereas the sk4 has 400×240 res.. n the sk slide has a smaller screen.. but other than tht eveything else is the same.. the slide is worth it i think.. the main goal when buying the phone shouldnt be how big the screen is n if it looks hotter then the other phone.. but it should be abt how reliable is it, is it gonna last long n not die out soon?? lets wait n actually play with it before buying it..

It’s called a sidekick because it is “There for you” like a sidekick (friend) would be. It is called a slide because, I don’t kno, because the front display “slides” upward to reveal the key pad. Go figure.

Maybe you should look up the definition for “sidekick” the title has nothing to do with the action of the phone when opened. However the word “slide” does. Sidekick only means that it is with you at all times, kinda like a friend(sidekick) would be. It’s not that hard people.
I played with the Slide when I was at the store getting my LX. It doesnt feel quite as good as the LX in your hand and the screen is smaller. I loved my SK3 and when I saw the LX one of the things about it that is so attractive is that the screen is bigger! The resolution is amazing on the LX. Sharp does a good job with these phones and Motorola has to stick it’s nose into everything. Remember how cool the razr looked at first and everyone went to go get one and almost everyone I know that has had one will complain about it. The LX is much easier to type on also. I’ve never had a problem with my SK3 or LX screen getting messed up or breaking either.
I have played with both also and I think its a toss up. Both have things that I like that the other lacks in a way. If they put both of them together they would’ve had one killer phone! But both of them are dope. Either way, you cant lose. But my homie is a manager @ Tmobile and he told me that this is just a test phone for Mototrolla to see how it does and if the sales do well than the next Sidekick by Tmobile will be the best 1 ever with crazy features and stuff! So it’s like I could hold out and buy the last Sidekick that Sharp will possibly manufacture, or buy the Slide to help the sales so when the next Slide comes out it’ll be all the Sidekick-of-Sidekicks!

okay check this out… im debateing about this…. my brother has a side kick LX… i mean i seen it in t-mobile stores but i havent seen the slide yet…. it came accross to me that i should get the LX… but the worker at the t mobile store told me to wait for the slide because it’s gonna be a better phone…… but i dont know i just wanna now thought’s on what one i should get?? it’s a birthday present… is the camera on the Sidekick slide as good as the one on the LX?? is the slide the phone that R. Honestly……I don’t think I will be buying another sidekick till they add video. They did the same thing as the psp. Just made it smaller and nothing very new about it. They are just putting the sidekick 3 and adding mirrors to fool you. Add video!!!!!!

The lx is so much better! I love it, I haven’t been able to let it breathe…. I think that it ’s the best sidekick yet!!! The slide is just another phone that you slide to open…wow…boring!!!!! The LX is better…trust!!!!!!!!

I personally like both the LX and the Slide I have played with them both, but advice for you all stick with the sidekick 3 and wait until they put video on one then that is the one to buy.
