MagicJack: Apply Directly to the USB Port

by John Biggs on September 27, 2007

Arthur C. Clarke once wrote that the future will be characterized by free, high-quality communication around the world. He was originally talking about satellite telephony, but it seems his predictions have come to pass, albeit using a few more wires.

MagicJack is a phone company that charges about $20 a year for unlimited local and long distance calling. You can’t call Japan, but you can call Grandma. That’s right, peeps. That’s $20 a year, not $20 a month or $20 a minute. And, if you buy the dongle for $40, you get the first year free.

Granted you do need a PC — a Mac version is coming very soon, said the CEO Dan Borislow — but once you plug it in, it just starts to work. It works using a mixture of POTS gateways and VOIP and brings a keypad right up on your screen. Just dial a number and make a call. You’ve got your own phone number and — this is the coolest part — the dongle has a standard telephone jack in it. You just plug in a regular phone and you’re calling your parole officer from what looks like trailer park in New Jersey when you’re really in Utah, meeting a man about a job.

The dongle is available now.

UPDATE – It seems that this post has been hijacked by Amway-esque resellers who are essentially astroturfing us. I recommend NOT PURCHASING A MAGICJACK BASED ON THIS POST and to do independent research elsewhere.

  • Great product, but the commercial is more annoying than John Madden pointing out how to properly win a football game by “scoring more points than the other team”

    Whoda thunk?

  • How do you CONTACT these people I can find NO way to send them a message? This thing is more expensive than vonage. It costs at LEAST $19 a month to operate a computer 24-7 add in inevitable maintenance for a 24-7 machines and your already over the $31 price tag of vonage. Thats not free. This would only be useful if the other end was an ETHERNET jack instead of a stupid USB jack requiring a computer :-(

    • You bring up a good point, I had never thought about the cost of power resources for over a months period. The Vontage product also requires power to be applied along with the cost of the router. There is no free lunch.

For myself I do a lot of international travel and find the product appealing because it then becomes really convenient for me to contact home and my friends.

      Thanks for the insight
      Tom

    • It’s for people who already have a high speed internet connection you dumbass!!!

      • They were talking about the cost of operating a PC 24/7 to maintain MagicJack’s connectivity.

        • Most people have a computer they leave on all the time anyway (a media server, etc). No big deal.

Magicjack works great for us. We made our local number a California number so my wife’s parents can call us for free.

    • Easy to complain about imagined power problems. Read the FAQ’s and you will see you can power down the CDROM, Monitor AND hard drive and the system will still run after bootup. And if you are as clever as humble ol’ me, you would run this on a mini-itx mobo with a flashcard hard drive, and you would shut up about the expense. I’m not imagining that. I’m DOING that right now.

      • Yeah, you’re really clever. You take a motherboard and build a computer specifically for your phone. If you were really clever, you’d realize that most people don’t have the technical expertise to build something like that just for phone service. Most of them wouldn’t even know what a mini-itx mobo is moron.

      • Can you use more than 1 MJ on a computer?? 98SE maybe. I am handy and could use a source for a mini itx mobo Any help would be appreciated. Tnx.

    • Yo Chris…Sounds like you’d complain about winning the Lotto because you got paid with Single Dollar Bills!!! Turn your computer off when you go to bed, or are not at Home. MagicJack DOES include on-line Voicemail + it’s Portable…Reads like you’re shy on BrainPower, Man!!! da Ripster ;-)

      • Thanks Rip for educate people and show them how to use their common sense if they have any..computers doesn’t have to be turn on 24/7 to have m.jack working!!! turn off your PC,go take a nap,get your butt up restart your PC and check your voice mail simple as that!,you don’t even need to plug/unplug the product,it does reboot it self—-how hard this can be for some people to understand??,thanks for your help man!!

    • Stop being STUPID Damn!!!!

      • I dont know what kind of system you have but it does not cost that much to operate any that I know of.Just turn off your monitor when not n use.It takes very little juice to run the hard drive.Magic Jack is a fantastic piece of technology and costs nowhere near Vonage.I should know,I switched from problem plagued Vonage to extremely simplee Magic Jack. Are you afraid of change?Lighten up a little and enjoy handing your cash over to at&t.

    • Your comments on magic jack are 100% wrong. You use about $5.00 per month to run your harddrive which is all that is needed to run mj.I am a former vonage user and will never consider returning to $29.99 a month versus a total of $71.00 per year.Ive done the math.If you want to talk to a rep all you have to do is go to menu on your home page and push “:Run magic fix” this will give you a a link to a live chat.MJ is also constantly adding service updates.Try the others but dont get rid of your magic jack, because you WILL be back.

  • I love this magicjack dongle! I don’t leave it running all night (I sleep nights), I unplug it and turn off my computer. For $19.95 a *year* I can’t beat it! The reception is better then Vonage.

  • I just got MJ and in only 120 seconds i made calls all around the US. Excellente…It is more than what the commercial says. Great!

  • Hi and thanks. I did not want to hook up to another phone – I just want a set of headphones and then use the keyboard on the screen. What is out tyhere – I have been to and from the store? Thank You.

  • wrong e-mail address for azbasqics@verizon.net – the e-mail is azbasics@verizon.net – the comment about a headset that works for the magicjack…thank you

  • Dan Borislow, the founder of YMAX Communications Corporation, founded a new company named Magic Jack, which manufactures and sells an apparatus to transmit voice over the internet. By eliminating the expense of local and long distance phone charges – and saving the average customer around $1000 a year – magicJack is positioned to be the fastest growing telecom company in the world; Borislow likes to call it “Telecom Revolution Part II.”

MagicJack is a convenient USB dongle with phone jack attached to it. By connecting your regular phone to the MagicJack phone port, you can now make free calls anywhere within the US for free. If traveling in Canada, Mexico, UK, China, Italy and Israel then you can call home (USA) for free.

MagicJack is a VoIP service which doesn’t have phone charges but rather an upfront cost for the USB dongle. No pricing yet, but it does provide not only free calling using your regular phone, but includes call forwarding, caller ID, call waiting and free phone number upon purchase. Dan Borislow is the founder of this company and it’ll be interesting to see his price point for the MagicJack USB dongle and how that meshes with customer value perception.

The MagicJack phone jack received Product of the Year in 2007. After the purchase of the MagicJack USB dongle (about $40) you pay a one time fee of $19.95 per year for unlimited calling. Not $19.95 per month BUT $19.95 per year. This will reduce your phone bill to just $20 a year!

Requires: Windows XP or above; high speed internet connection

  • One thing to know before you do about the MJ service. Although you pay about $50 for the MJ jack & then after the first year a $19.95 for use of the jack “NOT THE MJ PHONE SERVICE” for making & receiving calls. MJ then proceeds to provide all it’s MJ phone # to third party companies for the sole express purpose of spamming the customers accounts ref: »www.magicjacktv.com/5/privacy.asp * Third Party Advertising

I know this for a fact since I received my first voice spam in my Yahoo email account today.

    • Ive had magic Jack for several years and have no idea what the heck you are talking about ???? you are anal retentive.Just make cheap calls and shut up!!

  • I wanted to ask some questions of this company, but hey just very deftly took me through the purchasuing process without ever giving a phone number or an address.
After hering some of the comments from other buyers I definately wanted to cancel my order, but there was not a chance to do this.
I think the company is perpetrating a hoax and is going to rip us off. However I contacted my credit card company and they assured me that I can remove the charge.

    • Ever thought of using a spell checker ? From reading your post, I know that you do not have the required IQ or for that matter actual brain cells to accomplish the steps needed to install the MagicJack.

I’m sure they are not going to loose sleep by not having you as a customer. Really, it’s embarrassing to read comments by a person who is just plain DUMB !!!

      Adios (that means good-bye)

    • Oscar, you don’t have to buy it from the manufacturer. If you are afraid of the magicjack company, they are available at Walgreens, Radio Shack, and Best Buy. Maybe they have an easier refund policy. I have 3; one at each of my offices and one at home, they all work exactly as they are supposed to. I’ve called from overseas and it has always worked like any other phone call, except I only pay 20 dollars a year.

I wonder how many of the gripers are actually employees of phone companies.

George, I agree with your comments, but I personally don’t find it necessary to berate people on each of my replies…

  • I jus got mj, and immediatley find that I cant hear any of my ringers on phone,no support that matters, area codes and numbers are few & between.

  • Over the last few months I’ve been closely following the blogs and growing media coverage on the MagicJack, the coolest product to hit the marketplace in a very long time.

MagicJack is a USB phone jack that allows users to make FREE local and long distance phone calls anywhere in the US and Canada. Users can bring their MagicJack anywhere in the World and make FREE calls to the US and Canada, as well.

It’s easy to use. After plugging the MagicJack into the USB port of your computer, the software that resides in the MagicJack self-loads, a brief & standard registration process is required (during which time you get to choose a telephone number for your MagicJack from a large inventory of area codes/numbers in most every major metro area)and when done you simply plug any standard corded, cordless or portable phone (headset or Bluetooth also works) into the MagicJack, pick-up the phone and dial-tone has been delivered! You’re free to make FREE phone calls!

Initially, I was expecting to be unimpressed by the product since its extremely inexpensive — man, was I wrong! For $40 you buy the MagicJack and then $20 per YEAR for additional years can not be beat — for all the FREE local and long distance calls you can ever make in a year!! I started making calls immediately and I was AMAZED at the clarity and quality of the phone calls! Everyone I called agreed with me that the call quality was just as you’d expect from any landline. The MagicJack proves you do not have to sacrifice quality for cost!

But, let me take you back in time a bit since I did some research before I bought my MagicJack. Being a techno-savvy guy, I always research a product, its roots and its history before I give it a shot. After hearing about the product on a few techblog sites,I happened to catch the companies TV commercial recently. So, I began my own research.

Overall, the MagicJack has been hugely embraced by bloggers and the press alike. When visiting the company’s website http://www.MagicJack.com I was quickly impressed by the Tier 1 media coverage the product has received. Excellent reviews by NY Times, Boston Globe, LA Times, LAPTOP magazine, CNBC and video clips of consumer reporters raving about the MagicJack on CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox News. Then I read about the founder of the company and inventor of the product, Dan Borislow. From what I’ve read, he has over 20 years experience in building succsessful long distance telephone companies. His previous company struck a deal with AOL and carried AOL long distance customers on their long distance network. He came up with this idea, spent his own money on R&D of the MagicJack and then constructed a nationwide telephone network that is one of the largest and newest telephone networks in the industry. The MagicJack is backed by its own telephone network and is operated by executives who have extensive experience in the telecommunications and internet business.

From what I have seen, the company just expanded it’s online TechSupport platform to a 24/7 chat service. I can bet that part of the reason for the companies decision to rollout an online tech support system is due to the following:

    1) The super ease-of-use does not require a lot of support;

    and,

    2) The low product price point is huge benefit to consumer but does not allow of large & very expensive live phone CS center.

Also, from all accounts, Dan Borislow is an inventor that wants to stay in touch with the people who use his product. In fact, the MagicJack website has a link to send Dan an email and he replies to every one!!

I’m a very happy MagicJack customer and I can’t wait to watch this company soar!!

    • Hey Tim,
Apparently you are either a DUMMMASS! or didn’t do enough research.

Do you realize THAT MAGIC JACK WILL MONITOR EVERY SINGLE CALL YOU MAKE AND THEN TAILOR ADVERTISING TOWARD YOUR CALLING HABITS….

      SUCKA!!!!

      Early Adopter = Early DUMMMASS!!!

    • Take a look at their EULA!
And in case you are not as smart as you claim to be.
      EULA=End User License Agreement.
Means, when you sign up, you agree to their BULL SHIT!!!

SUCKA!!!! IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2008/04/14/magicjacks-eula-says.html

“You also understand and agree that use of the magicJack device and Software will include advertisements and that these advertisements are necessary for the magicJack device to work … Our computers may analyze the phone numbers you call in order to improve the relevance of the ads”

Any claims, legal proceeding or litigation arising in connection with the magicJack device or Software will be resolved by binding arbitration … in Palm Beach, Florida.”

  • someone is trying to astroturf this post – do your research before buying any product but I had no problems with the model I used. Others might have. Caveat emptor.

  • Caution: Make sure you read the Terms of Service which include:

“You also understand and agree that use of the magicJack device and Software will include advertisements and that these advertisements are necessary for the magicJack device to work … Our computers may analyze the phone numbers you call in order to improve the relevance of the ads”

    and

“Any claims, legal proceeding or litigation arising in connection with the magicJack device or Software will be resolved by binding arbitration … in Palm Beach, Florida.”

Also, while they don’t say how long or how much of your personal information they will keep; they “will transfer personal information if magicJack is acquired by or merged with another company … [and they] reserve the right to include your personal information, collected as an asset, in any such transaction” according to their Privacy Policy.

I knew the whole thing sounded fishy. Now I know why.

I’ll bet it’s a front for AT&T testing out the details of their new EULA.

“AT&T Your world delivered” to the NSA.

  • Over the last few months I’ve been closely following the blogs and growing media coverage on the magicJack, the coolest product to hit the marketplace in a very long time.
For those who do not know or do not have a full understanding of the magic behind the magicJack (and how its different from Skype and others…) my product overview is below.
magicJack is a USB phone jack that allows users to make FREE local and long distance phone calls anywhere in the US and Canada. Users can bring their magicJack anywhere in the World and make FREE calls to the US and Canada, as well.
It’s easy to use. You’re free to make FREE phone calls anywhere in the US and Canada! So, much different than other IP telephony options since it can be used with ANY regular phone and you get your own telephone number for LIFE!
Initially, I was not sure how the call quality would measure up since its extremely inexpensive — man, was I wrong! A mere $40 buys you the magicJack plus the 1st year of local and long distance calls and then its only $20 per YEAR for additional years!! You can not be beat that price for all the FREE local and long distance calls you can ever make in a year!! I started making calls immediately and I was AMAZED at the clarity and quality of the phone calls! Everyone I called agreed with me that the call quality was just as you’d expect from any landline.

He has over 20 years experience in building successful long distance telephone companies. He came up with his latest invention and has spent his own money on R&D of the magicJack — and, then constructed a nationwide telephone network that is one of the largest and newest telephone networks in the industry and is certified as a CLEC in 50 US states! The magicJack is backed by its own telephone network and is operated by executives who have extensive experience in the telecommunications and internet business. This is a HUGE differentiator between magicJack and any other company, including Skype, Vonage and others, in the space who are not telephone experts and are not certified in (even) a single state in the US!

    • Hi, I am wondering if would you know by any chance. I am trying to install my mj and the area code for my area is still pending. do you know by any chance if i can change the number later on if i select any number right now?

    • I recently went to Korea on business and MJ worked great! I have experienced some quality issues calling out a few times but here in Texas however that is rare. I am very happy with the product so far. I do not believe they will off an ethernet connection anytime soon because that would force a higher network traffic demand. The use of a USB implies limited use of the product and that saves them money and bandwidth.

A friend of mine was having problems with his MJ and these are their comments below:

magic Jack tech support and they say that —Musicmatch–Musicmatch jukebox—Yahoo jukebox–nero–and Roxio all cause problems with Magic Jack and if you have any of these programs to remove them before calling tech support.

  • I got my MJ yesterday as part of their 30 day trial. No charges have appeared on my card as promised. I plugged it in and it required a reboot. Then my Windows firewall stopped it from access the internet twice. Once I got passed that, I love it. Get a dial tone everytime. The little GUI interface that comes with it is nice. I see where the ad support is going to go. Right now it is filled with MJ stuff. Not intrusive at all.

I have mine plugged unto my USB hub (1.0) built into my monitor. They don’t recommend it, but I haven’t had any problems. They even supply you with a 6″ USB extension cord.

I don’t see any reason for sending it back right now. Calls come… calls go out. Perfect.

    • Hi Rob,
Can you share where and how you purchase your MJ? I like the fact that your credit card is not charge until the 30 days trial period is done. Speaking of which when did you purchse and when did your CC got charged – assuming you kept the MJ.
Would really appreciate your feedback. I am undecided to get MJ or not. Thanks ! -dawn

    • I’ve had our mJ for several months now. Of late, when the mJ is plugged into my laptop, I cannot get onto Internet explorer, outlook express works fine. This is a replacement mJ thinking that was the problem but NO, it’s still happening. Any suggestions??

  • I check the area code and mine is still pending. Will I be able to change the number later on?

    • Rsjian,

I found the answer to your question on one of the other blogs that was a response from the owner of magicJack. Dan was answering several questions in this reply copied from: (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=9&p=2460&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1#more2460)

Take note: Dan provides his personal email for questions. See below:

I am the inventor of magicJack. We have over 50 people on Chat to deal with many different type of matters. It is extremely efficient and works well.We DO offer the ability to track your shipment with Priority mail.I have posted my email many places as well.It is Dan@magicJack.com.Also we will be adding North Carolina and many other area codes soon and you can change your number when they become available.Their will be many positive changes as we grow and understand the needs of our customers better, but so far the great majority of people seem quite happy.

to Dan, all i have to say is after a few glitches in the ordering part, i love this product. it blows vonage away, and sometimes i have to reboot, big deal, the sound, calls, voicemail, all r working fine. and thanks for answering THE question, why it is difficult to get live help, or such a long wait, as u stated, 50 people isn’t alot, but, even my husband, Rob(the skeptic) is telling all his collegues at Toyota (works in the offices 20 plus yrs., warranty’s, so he’s heard it all, he’s a believer. since i am disabled former model/bartender, the price is the greatest part of all. all these people complaining, screw them, i bet, rather know, since no one has mentioned it, i’m no pc geek, BUT, self taught, had no problems installing it, soooo, keep up the good work, if u need any p/t time help, call me,lol. good luck, and thanks, this country needs all the financial help we can get. who cares who’s listening to my calls. if someone is that worried, go buy an untraceable cell phone for 20$, i swear, right now we need more positive thinkers, than negative. if i fall and cannot get to a working phone, that’s it for me, until my husband gets home. and lets face it, cell phones give us a hellava harder time when i have a problem than magicjack, take care, wish i’d thought of it. loyal consumer(so far so good) Kathleen F. Barthelmy

    • I dont know if you got a reply about your MJ or not
your post was awhile back but i will tell you what i did anyway. i had got my MJ when they first came out, they didnt have my area code here in Virginia listed so i picked a Florida one until they got my Virginia area code listed and changed it too that. the first time you change your number there is no charge. but if you try to change it again there is a minimal fee of i think $10. just keep checking for your area code to post.
      Ed

  • TO John Biggs: If you are going to quote Latin, do it correctly.
It is EMPTOR CAVEAT, NOT cAVEAT EMPTOR

  • A LITTLE INFO FOR JOHN DIGGS.
MERRIAM WEBSTER IS GIVING YOU THE TRANSLATION FOR EMPTOR CAVEAT IN ENGLISH BUT NOT THE ORIGINAL LATIN IN WHICH THE WORD BUYER
(EMPTOR) COMES FIRST AND THEN BEWARE (CAVEAT)COMES SECOND. CHECK IT FURTHER IF YOU WANT. BUT DONT GET CRAZY IN THE HEAD.
    O.G.

    • As a Latin teacher since sometime back in the previous century, I have to jump in here: BOTH are correct: “caveat emptor” puts the emphasis on the verb, the action of buying; “emptor caveat” puts the emphasis on the subject, the buyer. A beauty of Latin, such an inflected language, is that word order is extremely fluid, for word forms tell you the grammar, so then word order can express emphasis. Everyone wins! (But fact is, “caveat emptor” is the more common usage).
Over all, though, I’d say, with respect to Magic Jack, “Emptor delectabit!”

  • What about having multiple numbers? Can you choose you number?
Does anyone rec. this for business? Cost to call overseas, Europe, Africa?
Can one take their laptop overseas and call back here is the states like Vonage for an extra charge?

    Thanks

    D

    • Dee,

To have multiple numbers, you must purchase multiple magicJacks. When you register your magicJack by selecting an area code, you are assigned a phone number, at this time you can not ‘pick’ a number. In the future, you will be able to port your existing phone numbers for a small fee (per FAQ’s on http://www.magicjack.com)

For long distance cost from the states to other countries, see http://www.magicjack.com (click FAQ’s, international calling, How much are the international rates?)

When overseas and calling back to the U.S. or Canada, it is FREE.

I am in the Arizona area, and have purchased at least 5 magicJacks for myself and family members, and I am also an authorized reseller.

I think that says a lot.

    • I love Magic Jack and use is frequently when i travel to Korea. Of course there is no charge and it works great. All hotels in Korea have a computer in the room with high speed internet. If you have friends overseas then just have them purchase a magic jack then they will have their own US telephone number to call anyone free of charge.

      Enjoy

  • Dan RE: Terms of Service - April 24th, 2008 at 4:41 pm GMT+5

I am not actually Dan the Inventor but I have a few concerns listed below regarding the Terms of Service that I find disturbing
These are directly from the website which I might add could use some improvement the YMAX site is much better. The ticker for instance has a number on the home page and when you go through the mac download instructions it’s completely different. I understand it must be difficult with all the competition out there trying to squash this product, not everything is as it seems on the internet however, I find it a little unsettling to see so many negative comments being posted almost 10 to 1.
With that said My experience has been mostly positive…..but…

BY COMPLETING THE REGISTRATION PROCESS AND CLICKING THE “I ACCEPT” BUTTON, YOU INDICATE YOUR AGREEMENT TO BE BOUND BY ALL OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT ACCEPT AND ABIDE BY THIS AGREEMENT, YOU MAY NOT USE THE magicJack DEVICE OR DOWNLOAD OR USE THE SOFTWARE.

    9. Payment

    11. Advertisements
You also understand and agree that use of the magicJack device and Software will include advertisements and that these advertisements are necessary for the magicJack device to work and for the service to be free in the first year of the agreement (and subsequent licenses to be at minimal cost). 22. Waiver and Severability of Terms
Even if magicJack does not exercise or enforce any or all of its rights or any provision of this Agreement it does not mean that magicJack waives the right or provision, and we still enforce those rights and provisions later.

With all that said I think some legal jargon here could concern a few people that actually read this before clicking I ACCEPT.

By the way The Magic Jack works great, you did it again! By the way what are all these agreements with BellSouth and Verizon and why is MJ not public to be traded I would like to capitalize when the big guys wanna buy you out?

good luck at the races with my $40

    Dan

  • The BBS phone number, above, is an invalid, voicemail phone. This company does all it can to avoid direct contact with the customer(s), when seeking assistance and/or requesting the physical address for RMA returns.

  • Further, this company attempted to charge for the product well ahead of completion of the advertised 30 days. Therefore, they cannot be trusted with credit card information in that context. DO NOT USE debit cards …. only standard credit cards …. protect your bank accounts from invalid charges … watch your online activity during the 30 day trial period closely, if that is all you have available to use for purchasing.

    • I agree Sandy! Unfortunately we were stupid enough to give them our debit card number and sure enough just 5 days after we recieved the device, I figured I would check out my bank statement online because I din’t really trust magicjack and sure enough the bank teller told me that magicjack put $46.90 on hold, which made us have an overdraft in our account. They were supposed to take out $39.95 AFTER THE 30 DAY “FREE” TRIAL. Then when I confronted them on the live chat, they couldn’t come out with a straight answer on why I did not get my refund. They just blamed it on my bank because it didn’t come through yet. Then the agent terminated the session. We are going to get a new debit card because I don’t trust that they won’t take anymore money out. They are theives and they will do anything to steal people’s money- thay can’t be trusted.

      • This is yet another reason to think at least twice before using a debit card. You forfeit your leverage should you want to stop the sale among other things.

  • Hello Andrea, fellowess Reseller!

How are your magicJack sales going in Arizona?

I’m an Authorized Reseller here in Newburgh, NY.

Sales are better than expected. Although the majority of magicJack sales are generated through the magicJack website, I’m sure people will order directly from Reseller websites & events as soon as people realize Resellers exist. LOL

The City of Newburgh, NY charges $25 a Week, or $50 a Month, or $200 a Year, plus Passport pictures for $15, and a medical Physical estimated to be around $200, just to sell magicJack in the City of Newburgh.

I wish PEM would publish a list of Resellers soon. Do you agree?

    Happy selling!

  • Would Magic Jack work with a common fax machine?

  • I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY MJ: WHENEVER I AM REQUESTED TO ENTER A NUMBER ON MY PHONE PAD, THE MACHINES ON THE OTHER SIDE DO NOT READ IT CORRECTLY, CREDIT CARD COMPANIES WHOSE TAPED MESSAGE REQQUIRES MY NUMBERS, THEY NEVER ARE ABLE TO DECIPHER IT.
    WHAT GIVES?? IS THIS FIXABLE??

    • When I tried calling MoneyGram I had a similar experience where their software was unable to decode my keyboard number sequence properly. That is the only time that I had a problem. I do notice at times the connection will break up eventhough the traffic on my computer is nill. If I redial then it may be ok. For the inexpensive investment I live with the problems and the audio quality is usually better than a cell phone.

      Tom

  • Amazing how many users are willing to accept adware programs, especially when they have to PAY for those programs. Read their terms of service policy, section 11, Advertisements. Their magicPage software that must run on your host is adware. Oh joy, you get to pay for spam.

  • TO: AdwarePhobic

Why do I waste my time?

Hey AdwarePhobic, let’s say you are absolutely right. How does one pay for spam?

    Bob Barber

  • Magic Jack is turning into a disappointment. While the product is still work the money you pay for the device and service, the quality of connection is really degrading as their membership grows. When I call there almost always are interrupts in the service or brief periods where you drop out.

Its a good deal for the money you pay but certainly no where as good a vontage even with their problems. The service is not ready for prime time yet and probably never will be

  • WATCH OUT FOR THIS COMPANY THEY ARE SCAMMING YOU IF THEY SAY THERE IS A 30 DAY TRIAL PERIOD BEFORE THEY CHARGE YOUR ACCOUNT.

I signed up for the trial and within a day they put through the entire charge and it was for more than I even had in my account on that day. Like an honorable person would, I had even placed a note on my calendar for the 30th day to make sure that I either had the funds in there to cover it or canceled it. Now I have an unauthorized charge on my account that I am going to have to pay overdraw charges for. As far as I’m concerned these people stole my money!

Oh yes, I should mention, that when I had pre-order questions I was able to use their “live chat” system, but once I placed my order, now it won’t put me through to them and they don’t have a phone number. Even the one listed by the Better Business Bureau does not go through to anyone.

Guess my next step is to contact the F.B.I. to report this as a potential case of internet fraud.

    • Hi Art. I know EXACTLY what you mean. We had our magicjacj for 5 days and they had $46.90 put on hold in our account. They were supposed to take out $39.95 AFTER THE 30 DAY TRIAL. Yea they just take the money when they want and how much they want. THEY ARE THEIVES!!! I can only hope that people from the inventor of this piece of crap to those who sell it read these complaints of the hundreds upon hundreds of VERY dissatisfied customers. I have filed reports of fraud with the FCC (who magicjack CLAIMS to be FCC approved but when I called the FCC they told me that Magicjack is “definately not approved by us.” Those were their exact words.) I also filed a report with the Federal Trade Commission, ripoffreport.com and I’m not through yet! I notice there is a reseller of that peice of crap on these boards and you wonder how much they pay that person to stick up for them. MAGICJACK IS A FRAUDULENT COMPANY AND A BUNCH OF TRAINED CROOKS THAT ARE OUT TO STEAL EVERYONE’S MONEY.

    • Art, I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. We only had our magicjack for 5 days and they already put $46.90 on hold in our account. They were supposed to take out $39.95 AT THE END OF THE “FREE” TRIAL! We returned the device right after we found out they stole money out of our acount. When I chatted online with an agent, they couldn’t give me a straight answer as to why we haven’t received our refund- they just blamed it on the bank that it didn’t go through. The agent terminated the session becasue I backed her in a corner she couldn’t get out of. I have caught them in several lies. If anyone wants me to go into detail as reguards the lies, let me know and I will be MORE than happy to explain my WHOLE rediculous story! I have to say that purchasing that piece of crap was one of the worst things we ever did! I even told the agents on the live chat that I am on to them. I told them that they may deal with alot of stupid people but I am not one of them. I told them they are a bunch of scammers. Of course they have no reply to that because they know I am right. All these people that are so gung-ho over this piece of crap are going to find out eventually that it is a HUGE scam. I wonder how much these resellers are paid to stick up for that looser of a company. MAGICJACK IS A FRAUDULENT COMPANY RUN BY A BUNCH OF TRAINED CROOKS THAT EARN THEIR LIVING BY STEALING MONEY OUT OF PEOPLE’S BANK ACCOUNTS!!!! If I could send an email to the Dan the inventor himself I would just be estatic to give him a peice of my mind!!!!!! He is the trainer of the crooks that work for him. I have posted messages all over the internet about how magicjack is a big scam. I even emailed a gentleman who was thinking of purchasing one and was asking anyone if it’s a wise thing to do. I emailed him directly and told him my whole story and he thanked me up and down for my information. He isn’t going to purchase one now. The more people that know about that magicjack scam the better. I am just going to keep on going before alot of other people get caught in their trap! There are even some people that just purchased the product and didn’t install it yet and I told them my story and they are sending it back- they aren’t even going to install it. There are alot of consumers out there that will not put up with their crap. Eventually that company will be investigated!

  • Hey Art!

I’m sure magicJack did not mean to put you in the hole. Billing computers do strange things. I hate to say it, but the 800 service I use, billed me twice. So don’t feel alone. Stay in contact with the right person – Dan the inventor himself, and he will get your issue resolved.

Why in the world would a company, as busy as magicJack is, be on the phones all day! They would never get any work done.

If you don’t know it by now, magicJack is on a roll, and will become the largest phone company in the world. They have posted the procedures for getting a RMA on their web site.

Too many people pick up the phone just to talk to someone. I don’t know why. Why do you want to talk to them on the phone? Talk about customer service, Vonage charged me $120.55 to cancel their service. LOL. That taught me a lesson – Never Call A Company’s Customer Service To Cancel A Service. You’ll Pay For It.

Did you know, phone companies are now realizing that magicJack is an honest to goodness phone company? Oh Yeah! magicJack has these companies in an uproar. Nearing the 500,000 new customer mark, magicJack has caused many people to cancel other phone services, just like me.

Yep, I canceled both Vonage & Time Warner Cable phone services. And I liked both of their services, but I just couldn’t see myself paying for a phone service I didn’t use or need. Does that make sense to you? It’s just a matter of money.

I just read an article yesterday (May 19, 2008) about the Nation’s Economy. Our economy is headed in a downward direction, and getting worse. I would advise all Americans to get a magicJack ASAP! And start saving money. Don’t spend money if you don’t have to. This is a serious situation in America. We work harder, but the money isn’t working it’s way into your pockets.

You can actually help people financially if you mention the magicJack to everyone you meet. For real! All of us have to find ways to cut costs, just like the BIG Corporations do.

Knowing that, you now know why the other phone companies are screaming!

    Bob

    • They do not have the return instructions on the web site. You get a live chat with a non English speaking person who will give you a RMA number but it is not in printable form. When you ask for a printable form she says “copy it on the paper” and then hangs up. You have no further instructions and you cannot get live chat again because your isp is looped. I was charged the first day for the 30 day trial, never received a receipt and I have no idea what the charges are. One week later I am receiving spam phone calls from people with the last 4 digits of my card. I had to cancel the card. Not for me and I am stuck with this and more money than I thought has been charged to my account and I can not reach anyone.

      • Alot of problems have been solved with buying this gadet, In my area (Central Florida) you can buy it Wallgreens, Office Depot, Best Buy and many others places. Just take it back to the store and get a refund. I happen to like it, In fact I bought a second one today at Wallgreens, I bought and put my friends area code on it now they can call me for free. for $40.00 bucks I think it’s a good deal. My MJ works perfect. it’s as good as my landline.

  • I think most people that are experiencing problems are because they have little knowledge of the working of a computer, have no clue they have programs running in the background eating up bandwith, and most canot follow simple directions.

I bought Magicjack and paid for the 5 year plan. I have a Mac Book Pro (Intel Chipset) and it took me 1 minute and 42 seconds to have Magicjac working and have experienced no problems whatsoever. Call clarity is better than Vonage or the other VOIP apps. This beats Skype big time! If you don’t like to look at the advertisements on the screen just make the screen small. I’m try not to sit at my computer and talk on the phone anyway! Magicjac follows me around the globe and has worked in all the places I have traveled to.

Magicjac seems to work seamlessly and even when I am receiving or sending email I hear no difference (Download and upload) in voice quality.

    Always,

    J

  • Let’s hear it for Jeff Carr !!!

Way to go. I know there are more of you out there that have few, if any, misnomers with the magicJack.

    Let’s hear from you too.

BTW, if you have not heard, magicJack is part of an organization that has a telephone company.

    Bob

    • I’m familiar with Ymax Corp. I have a terrible time understanding how people can be so critical as to worry about the cost of leaving a computer running for 24 hrs a day 7 days a week, it costs less than watching television 2 hrs a month! Skip the TV if you need your phone the cost will equal out! “I don’t like the adware”…Don’t read it! Simple ways to solve simple “Problems”. “The largest problems with computers is the Users”!

      Cheers,

      J

  • I got my MJ, did the upgrade or (fix) and I still have a few issues. My sound cuts out intermittently, both on my end and the other parties end, and some cell phone providers WILL NOT CONNECT! The caller usually gets an error message stating that you must first dial the area code, which was definitely dialed in the first place. Call quality is generally better than Skype which I currently have as well, but I can’t get past the cell phone issue… I do have a fast computer and plenty of ram, as well as my internet connection generally running around 5.5 meg.

    • Forgot to mention Jeff, I am well versed in the workings of a computer, I can build you one with a custom operating system if you want, and I have set the priority level for MJ to realtime, which is the highest possible. The problems persist despite all attempts on my end to rectify the situation. Cells not being able to call my number is an issue with telephony, mainly MJ and the carrier. Suncom/Tmobile is not the only carrier that this problem occurs with, Cricket is another, and I believe Cingular/ATT is another. I wish I could sing praises, my wallet would surely appreciate it, but as of now that’s not possible…

      • I have Cingular/ATT I can forward to or from my cell phone, I receive calls from cell phones, I get calls from IP phones world wide, I don’t have any issues with the magic jack with my computer or calls from or to other types of telephony systems. Perhaps it’s something in the sound card you have installed in your computer. I’m sure some people will have some issues with the set up they have or the hardware they have installed, I’m using a DECT 6.0 Uniden phone system with mine and I’m running it on a MAc Book Pro 17″ with intel chipset. Even thought the MAC for Magic Jack is a Beta it seems to work fine.

      • Have you tried checking your OS? I had problem with mine as same as you do. I hooked my MJ to an XP and then VISTA it had trouble with XP but then it just need to upgrade from the website. I hooked it up with VISTA another problem came up but still it got fixed when it got upgraded.

  • To Tryztan Pate – If you are behind a network/external firewall or router, you need to open the following ports: UDP 5061, TCP 80 and TCP 443.

  • Ladies & Gentlemen:

I have an announcement to make. As a Reseller of the magicJack, I am proud to say that magicJack past a BIG hurdle today. The magicJack website has now surpassed 100,000 hits in one 24 hour period today! The magicJack hit counter begins at 0000000 each 12 Midnight. It surpassed 100,000 at 4:59 PM EST on Friday, May 30, 2008.

This is incredible. By the end of June 2008, magicJack sales will more than likely reach the 1,000,000 mark.

ATTENTION ALL Wireless Companies: Watch magicJack break all records! It is on a roll, and all indications point to 20,000,000 sales by the end of 2008! (This is solely my guess, and not a magicJack estimate.)

I personally have been tracking the magicJack website. So I know what I am talking about!

WOW! I am excited! I am Proud to be a magicJack Reseller!

    Bob Barber

    • Yea Bob. And how much are you paid to say all of that garbage? I DON”T BELEIVE ANYONE ASSOCIATED WITH MAGICJACK. You are all a bunch of trained crooks!!!!! Magicjack even lied about being FCC approved. When I filed my report against magicjack to the FCC, she laughed and said ,”We definately do not approve them.” The reason being is that she said that numerous people have been filing reports against Magicjack because they tend to not return refunds! The FCC can’t even get a hold of Magicjack because they are hiding SOMETHING. Gee, I wonder what that could be? Maybe because they are crooks? As you can tell, I don’t take too kindly with people who steal my money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Something WILL be done about this legally- THAT IS A PROMISE and I hope Dan Borislow reads this too!!!!!!!

  • From the first minute I ordered the magicjack I have had this nagging feeling that I have been ripped off. How on Earth can I get unlimited local and long distance calling for just 20 dollars a year….this just seems totally to good to be true. There MUST be somekind of catch or hidden surprise that will pop up somewhere down the line. Although I have ordered the product and hope it turns out to be everything it promises to be, I know that, without doubt, somewhere down the line it will end up costing me more than 20 dollars per year. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is that cheap. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is ever exactly as advertized. There is ALWAYS an unexpected surprise later on, and it’s never a good surprise. We shall see how this magicjack thing works out.

    • I have used Magic Jack now for 6 months. Try getting support and you will find out why your paying $20 per year. I have been able to work through all my issues but do find the service is unusable at times. The connection will drop in and out at a high rate to the point it is unusable. I am still very happy with the investment because it does appear the have been updating the network bandwidth to handle the increase traffic load. Since it requires a computer to maintain connection, the up time of the device will be much less than a product like vontage. It still a great deal and would not be surprised the monthly fee jumps in a couple of years.

  • I awaken one day and turned on the tele to a commercial advertising magicjack. Immediately, it caught my interest. I said what the heck why not try it. So, I placed the order within a few days I received it and plugged it in. I could make a calls immediately, but the problems started with receiving a call. My first thought, when ordering it, was I could get rid of the cell phones. Which cost me a lot more per month than this per year. Don’t jump to conclusions so fast. I have been on live tech support every since. The problem is that I can only receive calls from certain cell phone carriers one of them not being my own. I keep trying to call my mj number from my cell phone. The number could not be completed as dialed. So, I called my sister who lives in NM and had her try to call my mj from her cell phone. She got threw but she heard music while I heard loud static. She even tried from her home number and could not even get threw. I called my mother in law, she got through on her cell phone. Then placed a call to my cousin in NY, asked him to call and he got through from his cell phone. On the other hand, I keep trying to call from my cell and still get the same message. I have gone threw two days of tech support from the moment I plugged it in. So, It is not just plug it in and go. It depends on the service provider and other factors. I know this much, I will keep my cell phones, they are more reliable than the magicjack.

My husband does not like the fact that the computer has to stay on for the jack to work and neither do I. I realize this is new technology and things don’t always work great immediately. If I had paid 20 dollars for the device I would not mind. But I paid $40 plus shipping and for an extra year on top of that (taxes were separate). I feel at that price it should work perfect. The clarity isn’t cracked up to what was advertised. In this day and age I do not have the time to waste money on electric bills or any other bill. This device is amazing and at the same time it is not very green friendly. The money I save on a monthly phone bill will be added to my electric bill every month instead. I am glad I have a thirty day trial period, because at this moment I a ready to return it.

    • If the product does not meet your expectations then I would return it. I do believe that Magic Jack is wrong trying to convince people they no longer need their telephone service with Magic Jack. I personally love Magic Jack and am very happy with the product. I use it to make long distance calls and works great when I am outside the country being able to call anyone at any time for nothing.

The product is not a replacement for your telephone service. You should consider Vontage or some other VOIP service that has its own hardware and not requiring a computer. A VOIP service can be purchased for $200 per year.

      Good Luck.
      Tom

    • I’m beginning to think some of you people cannot read the fine print associated with the magic jack service. I’ve had my magic jack for nearly 8 months. If you’re leaving your PC on for any length of time, then you shouldn’t worry about the power consumption your computer is using while the magic jack is plugged in. And since the magic jack uses what 5 measly volts of that computer power, i don’t see it to be a big hassle, for the few that are complaining about it so dearly.

You people whine entirely too much about the dumbest crap. If you don’t think it’s a good product, don’t freakin use it. It’s that simple. So who made you the spokesperson for the rest of the world? Let them make their own decisions. Yeah, some people rely on pro’s and con’s of a product, and yes some aren’t computer savvy. Who cares, read the instructions, they do help. Read the agreements, if you think it’s a hoax, don’t use it. That’s your opinion, you cannot assume that the service you’ve received will be the service everyone will receive when inquiring about the Magic Jack, and tell everyone else “DON’T BUY THIS PRODUCT”. You’re and idiot for even thinking by some chance they’re going to listen to a bunch of mentally challenged crybabies that have never bought the product, or have used it.

I’m sorry some of you have had difficulties, this is still a beta version, which they’re still fine tuning the product. And like any beta program, it’s going to have program failures, dropped calls, and the occasional static’d background, they’re working on a solution. Soon enough, those that are complaining will be like every other schmuck out there, they’ll eventually get it after all the bugs have been worked out, and swear by it, like it’s a second religion. Just like the beta operating systems, it’s people like me that test out the first product, give our opinions on what should be changed, and pro’s that we enjoy about it.

This really cannot be compared to vontage because it cannot be used by itself, meaning it needs a computer, and doesn’t have an external modem. Yes vontage has their own modem, and you do not need a PC to use it. But just like the magic jack, without internet service, you’re just as screwed with vontage as you would be with magic jack. Plus with vontage, you’re billed 24.95 a month for their services. And unlike vontage the magic jack charges you 19.99 for the dongle, 19.99 for the service, the the rest is shipping and handling. I’m beginning to think people aren’t reading this at all, from what I’ve gathered on this forum/blog/unnecessary opinions of a good product. Just cause You have a problem, the company is a hoax? I wonder if you accuse shopping malls for false advertising too, when you wanted a blouse and got a cardigan instead. Remember, it’s not always the company, it’s the impatient moron that didn’t read the fine print upon signing up for such services. You should be mad at yourself, rather than blaming a company for your incompetence.

When you first, and i mean first buy the magic jack, yes you’re billed for the full cost, but it will be reimbursed if you choose not to keep it after the initial 30 day trial. I’m not here to sell this VOIP dongle for magic jack, I’m not a reseller, and nor was i paid to fill your heads with useless nonsense to boost the morale of the company. I’m just a happy consumer that has not only used the product I’m still using the product, and I would recommend it to those in search of an alternative to their current “long distance” phone bill situation. I for one wouldn’t use the magic jack as a main line. I have a cellphone and a land line for my business. The magic jack is to keep in touch with distant friends and family *when i want to call them*. You don’t have to have your pc running 24/7 either. Since you’re provided with a voice mail, which the message is emailed to the given address you’ve provided during the initial setup.

You also don’t receive a *phone number* until you plug the magic jack into your pc, and it goes through the setup, and updates that are vital to work on your given operating system. The magic jack acts as a backup in case my land line, or my cellphone service has technical difficulties, or no service whatsoever. It’s not a main line, and i wouldn’t tell someone to do this, that would be idiotic. It’s merely a backup, and that’s all it’ll be.

Having an issue with leaving your PC running? Turn the blasted thing off, unplug the magic jack, go about your day or night as you’ve always done. The following day, or evening, boot your computer up, plug the magic jack in, open your email account to possibly read the messages that could have been left when your magic jack wasn’t plugged in, return calls, it’s that simple! Are some of you people that idiotic, that you need instructions to operate the Magic Jack? It doesn’t take a scientist to operate the Magic Jack, plug it in, let it go through the setup, be patient, you’ll eventually be able to make calls effortlessly soon enough. just remember, “impatient people wait longer”

  • Blogs are very important, especially when you count the number of complaints about a new product. The manufacturer has the opportunity to consider the comments, then fix the glitches.

When you consider the number of magicJacks that have been sold, versus the number of complaints in the blogs, I believe that there is no company that can match the sell:complaint ratio that magicJack enjoys.

    • Well, Magicjack better enjoy it while it lasts. I am calling my attorney on Monday because I don’t appreciate people stealing my money and not refunding it on top of that!!!!!

      • Dear Mary, I am writing this slowly because I know you are retarded. Only a retard would hire a lawyer for 300-500 dollars an hour to try to recover 20 or 50 bucks

Well, Magicjack better enjoy it while it lasts. I am calling my attorney on Monday because I don’t appreciate people stealing my money and not refunding it on top of that!!!!!

        • I was going to say the same thing. Retain an attorney for $46.90? The last time I had to come up with a retainer, they gave me a deal at $500. And yes, they will use it all. By the way Mary, you said “My Attorney”??? Do you have a habit of slipping on the ice at shopping malls or something?

  • I will not signup for a service that requires you to accept spam without them telling me upfront in advance.

That is like buying a car for a greatly discounted price only to find out after the sale that the radio only plays commercials and you must always have it on at a high volume level.

Either make it clear to the customers before they commit, or remove that requirement from the terms of service!

  • Danny

    LOL

Disable Java and see if that will solve your problem.

Also, check the latest magicJack sales figures.

You probably thought magicJack wouldn’t be around this long.

Better brace yourself. magicJack is on a roll, and gaining ground fast!

Bet you like the idea of having no phone bill, though!

  • MagicJack will sell probably 500,000 in six months and there are like 100 or so naysayers. Get on the magicJack bandwagon. Happy to be a reseller and become part of this phenomenon. Contact andy(at)andymedia(dot)com. He is agent for all resellers on behalf od sole distributor, Proactive Marketing.

  • For all of you who love the magicJack, I want to thank you for being a part of TELCOM REVOLUTION II = which is NO MONTHLY PHONE BILLS!

It seems many people, but NOT a whole lot of them, will say anything to discredit a company. Real complaints are justified, but complaints made to confuse others are unjustified.

A real complaint will be handled in an expedient manner. magicJack does what it can to solve real issues & coping with early detractors at the same time.

magicJack has done a great job manufaturing & selling their first product. I estimate that magicJack has sold close to 650,000 units since September 2007. I also estimate that magicJack will sell close to 20,000,000 units by December 31, 2008.

I’m sure that the BIG phone companies & VoIP companies are shaking in their boots just thinking about magicJack’s successful ride to the big time.

If magicJack introduces a Cell phone & a femtocell unit, I predict that magicJack will gain 50% of the CLEC/VoIP marketplace by the end of 2009.

I hope complainers are not thinking that magicJack will disappear soon, because magicJack is on a roll with no plans on stopping.

    • If Magicjack is stopped illegally what choice do you have but to stop. You are just trying to cover magicjacks butt, Bob. Crooks stick together, I know.

    • Are there plans to introduce a Cell Phone? What is a femtocell unit?
I have used MagicJack since Jan and love it. I use the call forwarding feature at work to call friends eventhough my computer is turned off at home. It works most of the time and often have to redial. Hey I am happy

  • Fraudulent charge has occurred on my account, used to secure the devices I ordered for the 30 day free trial. My card was charged by MagicJack account on 20th day. This caused an overcharge of $39 to my account (would not have happened had they held to their promised 30 days).

Obtained an RMA number when I learned that the device will not work for dial-up connections. Went through hell in the process of returning, as MagicJack operators REFUSED to provide a physical address (required by UPS). So, finally used FedEX to return it.

I am now out [fraudulently] $39.00. (Yes, they did return the card charge.) I’ll probably pay hell getting the overcharge returned; yet it was their fraudulent (early charge) which generated that fee.

BE VERY CAREFUL. MAKE CERTAIN YOU HAVE THE CORRECT SYSTEM FOR USE OF THIS DEVICE, OR YOU’RE OUT OF LUCK.

  • MagicJack works sometimes. When it was connected to my USB port it worked but knocked out my PC sound as long as the MagicJack was connected. Now I can get a dial tone on my phone but after dialing a number I do not hear it ringing and I get no connection. When I ask for help it is not at all usefull. There is no 800 number that I could find to call them, so I guess I’m just stuck

  • I’m waiting for your comment

  • Never pay a phone bill again? This thing costs $20/year. Isn’t that a phone bill?

  • The first magicjack i bought worked well , so i bought another one for my son . He was not able to get his to work on his computer , so i gave him mine .After trying his mj on a total of five different computers we determined it was faulty . When i tried to explain this to five different people , who gave the same suggestions over and over , i finally stated that i would no longer make changes that would jeopardize my computer , and asked for a replacement mj or a refund .I coiuld not get it through to them , that if one mj works on a computer, then the second should as well.I had to wait to see if the charges when taken of my statement (which they were), before i reordered . I’m hoping the new one will work , as well as the first one did. Is there anyone at mj that deals with replacements ,or repairs? It cost me 6.95 to return it , and god help you if you don’t save the origional packaging.

  • I just ordered the magicjack yesterday. I began reading pros and cons on sites. I found out early on I could find no phone # to call. The 800# given by information states the voice mail is full. I ordered it on a 30 day trial period and hope it is everything it states to be. I will be moving to another state in the next week and ordered for my service there. From what I read it is best to have a designated phone line and not to depend on it as your main phone line. In some instances local calls would cost the local caller a long distance call. From all my calls to find the least amount charged by other phone companies…when they bundle packages…I am not sure I will be saving much in using the magicjack. I do hope I have not already been billed for the magicjack as some have been since I took the 30 day trial period. I will check my bill on line to make sure I haven’t. Also in reading some problems others are having the program nero was mentioned as a problem with magicjack. They say to remove it. I use the nero program and do not choose to remove it. Some seem to rave about this little item and others really complain so I am somewhat skeptical. I am a little in the dark in one area. Do you have to use a head set? I have extendaphones. Does it work with this type phone? Are you able to fax out and receive faxes? If not this device will not work for me. I had considered getting a basic phone service (no LD). So as mentioned earlier with the packages phone companies put together, by trying to save with the magicjack and adding services to accomodate it, it may not be for me. I do not travel much and most do not travel abroad.
