I know no one is updating this thread anymore, but thought you'd enjoy seeing the updates on Better Business Bureau's website now regarding number of complaints:

Complaint Closing Statistics

The following grid displays the number and responses to complaints over the last 36 months:
No. of Cmpl	Type of Response
493	Making a full refund, as the consumer requested
12	Making a partial refund
1150	Agreeing to perform according to their contract
2	Refusing to make an adjustment
1	Refuse to adjust, relying on terms of agreement

Your comments on magic jack are 100% wrong. You use about $5.00 per month to run your harddrive which is all that is needed to run mj.I am a former vonage user and will never consider returning to $29.99 a month versus a total of $71.00 per year.Ive done the math.If you want to talk to a rep all you have to do is go to menu on your home page and push ":Run magic fix" this will give you a a link to a live chat.MJ is also constantly adding service updates.Try the others but dont get rid of your magic jack, because you WILL be back.

I have read a lot about the MJ, I'm one from the old school and I have found out that it you read all the do's and don'ts that you will find out that you, only you can make a choice to use the MJ, as for me my home phone was costing me around 55.00 a month and for a ISP on land line was slow as hell, plus that was 25.00 and that was not DSL. So I made a choice to buy my MJ and have Charter High Speed put in, now I look at it like this I pay 54.00 a month for my high speed service,my MJ is already covered for I bought it from Radio Shack for 39.95, now that is all it will cost me for the next year for my phone, so right from jump street, my high speed (which I really like) cost me around 648.00 a year, now my home phone was costing me around 660.00 a year with no long distance over 20 minutes a month and dail up was about 300.00 a year, so in reality I have saved myself 312.00 a year and I'm not out of a thing, it's going to be a good Christmas for me and my family. The plus on this I have all the programs that I had before on my PC like Nero, have had no problems with calling or calls coming in, so I say to some of you out there get your glasses on for it's all there to read if you have a problem with your MJ. Have a great day!

I have had mj for 17 months. I have had a few bugs but I found the problem. This problem occured when they added the normal high-speed and air card. The only problem is when someone calls me I don't hear them. They hear me. When they call back I usually hear them. I have tried everything in the book. Upgrading, sound. Any suggestions?

Oscar, you don't have to buy it from the manufacturer. If you are afraid of the magicjack company, they are available at Walgreens, Radio Shack, and Best Buy. Maybe they have an easier refund policy. I have 3; one at each of my offices and one at home, they all work exactly as they are supposed to. I've called from overseas and it has always worked like any other phone call, except I only pay 20 dollars a year.

I wonder how many of the gripers are actually employees of phone companies.

George, I agree with your comments, but I personally don't find it necessary to berate people on each of my replies...

Ever thought of using a spell checker ? From reading your post, I know that you do not have the required IQ or for that matter actual brain cells to accomplish the steps needed to install the MagicJack.

I'm sure they are not going to loose sleep by not having you as a customer. Really, it's embarrassing to read comments by a person who is just plain DUMB !!!

Adios (that means good-bye)

This is the problem with offering a product that will save people a lot of money. You get all the cheapskates complaining about when the money is pulled out of their empty accounts. Complaints about a measly $7 for return shipping, etc. Have any of you idiots used your debit card at the gas pumps? Ever seen the amount of the hold they put on your card there? Quit being such a bunch of crybabies. Read the end users license agreement before you commit to a purchase, and if you don't agree with it or understand what it means, and you sign up anyway, the problem is yours.

I was going to say the same thing. Retain an attorney for $46.90? The last time I had to come up with a retainer, they gave me a deal at $500. And yes, they will use it all. By the way Mary, you said "My Attorney"??? Do you have a habit of slipping on the ice at shopping malls or something?

When I pick up the phone that is plugged into my magicJack that is plugged into the USB I get a dial tone. My problem is after I dial a number I don't hear the a dial tone or anything else. I've had it hooked up for over a year, and magicJack has charged my credit card for the second year, but now the phone doesn't work. I tried changing phones and USB connections but nothing helps. Any suggestions?

As a Latin teacher since sometime back in the previous century, I have to jump in here: BOTH are correct: "caveat emptor" puts the emphasis on the verb, the action of buying; "emptor caveat" puts the emphasis on the subject, the buyer. A beauty of Latin, such an inflected language, is that word order is extremely fluid, for word forms tell you the grammar, so then word order can express emphasis. Everyone wins! (But fact is, "caveat emptor" is the more common usage).
Over all, though, I'd say, with respect to Magic Jack, "Emptor delectabit!"

Alot of problems have been solved with buying this gadet, In my area (Central Florida) you can buy it Wallgreens, Office Depot, Best Buy and many others places. Just take it back to the store and get a refund. I happen to like it, In fact I bought a second one today at Wallgreens, I bought and put my friends area code on it now they can call me for free. for $40.00 bucks I think it's a good deal. My MJ works perfect. it's as good as my landline.

Sorry reege46, you are incorrect; Skype is not free when unless you are calling other Skype users, but if you don't buy a “Skype out” subscription you will only have the computer to computer service; same as Microsoft Live, Yahoo Messenger, and Google Talk etc...

While Skype out is only US$2.95 a month to call mobile or land lines within North America; your Skype out calls must be to telephones that are within North America and the computer you are using to make these calls must also be located in North America.

Here are examples of the “Unlimited US & Canada” plan for Canada or USA residents:
- You are in Canada or USA, calling a Canada or USA telephone; you pay nothing.
- You are in Canada or USA, calling a non-Canada, non-USA telephone; you pay a connection fee plus a fee per minute.
- You are calling a Canada or USA telephone while you are on vacation outside of Canada or USA; you pay a connection fee plus a fee per minute.

Magicjack is US$19.95 a year for calls to telephones in Canada and USA. Those calls can currently be from anywhere in the world, but who knows what will happen in the future? (reege46 says Korea is not included).

99.99% of us don’t give a hoot if Magicjack works in Korea or not. If that is important to you; get Skype too.

Skype out calls always have a delay, Magicjack calls don't. Skype out calls often have a bit of echo; Magicjack calls usually sound the same as a normal corded phone.

I’ve used Skype out for 3 or 4 years and Magicjack for 6 months. I only use MagicJack when calling to telephones in Canada and USA; I use Skype for video calls to other Skype users…

Skype out calls always have a delay, Magicjack calls don’t.

Everyone using this forum needs to know that Skype is the best. Magic Jack is not free, Skype is. Magic Jack is audio only, Skype is audio and video. Magic Jack DOES NOT work in Korea, Skype does.
You have to have a computer with high speed internet access to use either of these systems, so Skype is the best -- and that's a NO-BRAINER!!! Try Skype and you just might like it.

Dear Mary, I am writing this slowly because I know you are retarded. Only a retard would hire a lawyer for 300-500 dollars an hour to try to recover 20 or 50 bucks

Well, Magicjack better enjoy it while it lasts. I am calling my attorney on Monday because I don’t appreciate people stealing my money and not refunding it on top of that!!!!!

Mary, Mary quite contrary. Your complaints remind me of a quote by RFK "65% of the people will be disgruntled about something all of the time." I sincerly hope i got that 100% correct but if not maybe someone will clarify.
Let me say,i am just a little nobody who happens to love my magic Jack and i don't get paid to say so.
I think it is a shame anyone would (ie amway reps) hack a page to cause such corruption don't they make enough $$ on their product or just have soooo much time on their pyramid hands they try to dissuade others from good technical benifits.
Also when it comes to debit cards and banking maybe u should be a little more discerning about u'r choice in banking. Personally i have banked with Chase JPMorgan for several years now and never ben more content. The personal attention recieved thru my local branch manager, and personal bankers at Chase have made my life more enjoyable over the years. Magicjack "I luv U" You have already saved me Thousands and i have been a customer for less than a year. When my hubby came home with yet another "Gadget" for $39.95 Plus i was exasperated. Today i know full well that purchase from radio Shack was one of the best he ever made. Thanks again MagicJack!
