Big surprise: Nintendo won’t have enough Wii this holiday season

This December, a lot of little boys and girls are going to be severely disappointed when they discover they didn’t get a Nintendo Wii for Christmas or Hanukkah. Don’t blame the ‘rents though, because Nintendo is (probably) purposely not manufacturing enough Wiis to keep up with demand. Is there any proof of this? No, but a year after the console’s launch, you still can’t find a goddamned system anywhere.
It gets worse. Nintendo’s Reggie Reggie Fils-Aime, who’s in charge of Nintendo of America, spews the following crap from his mouth:
We’re working very hard to make sure that consumers are satisfied this holiday, but I can’t guarantee that we’re going to meet demand. As a matter of fact, I can tell you on the record that we won’t.
Oh you can’t meet demand? How about when my little cousin can’t get a Wii this holiday season, you can deal with his tears of sadness. You’re not just breaking hearts, Reggie, you’re breaking lives.

Dunno where you’re at, but in New Jersey, theres a few shops that have had them waiting for sale. Of course, I might have popped in the same day as a shipment, but as of 7 pm that day, there were wiis ready to sell. I dont think it will be as bad as last year, just get one early on, before the holiday rush.

I thought “news” stories were supposed to be unbiased. This is obviously written by someone who has a large hate-on for Nintendo. “Breaking lives”? Get serious.

so, vince, you put forth a crackpot theory, which you admit has no evidence… interesting.. and this theory requires a company, interested in, oh I dont know, making money, do give up on sales (IE: money) to acheive what? hype that they dont even need to drive?
just seems strange to me.
also seems weird that you wouldnt accuse the retailers, who actually have a reason to hold back stock. The stores have an interest in bringing tons of people in all at once, get them in with a big wii sale and sell the, tons of other stuff they dont need. while nintendo just wants units out there to increase userbase and potentially sell more of everything they try to pawn off.
also, why would ninty spend tons of money to make new plants to produce more wiis when this level of demand will never stick around. so they can invest now to satisfy demand then they would be stuck with productions facilities working at half capacity cus the demand has dropped. which yes. would cost them money.
*sigh* conspiracy theorists
