@ Tony

How the hell is MS a monopoly? Campared to what? Apple? Apple makes you buy only their brand of hardware and software, and they jack the prices up 3 times of PC manufacturers. Steve Jobbs is a bitch that is out to make money. Look at your PC and count how many programs and peripherals you have made from microsoft. I can count them on my fingers. Now look at a Mac. EVERYTHING is made by them.

That's why nobody likes macs. You can't customize them. They're only skin-deep, cuz after that they're boring as hell. Nothing is campatible with macs because that's the way they want it. But they own like 3% of the market, so no one cares. Linux is a bigger threat than Apple, Apple is just a fad that's fizzling out.

Read some books on economics. If it wasn't for microsoft, and the way they gave everyone permission to build PCs and hardware for their computers in the early 90s, the U.S. wouldn't be near where it is now. The internet wouldn't have caught on. Basically MOST of the success that businesses have had in the U.S. is because of Bill Gates.

Mac software doesn't deserve to be compatible with Windows. The Zune is a much better MP3 player, and the iTunes software opens about 8 programs in memory that slows your computer down . . and 2 of those you cannot close in task manager without uninstalling iTunes. Pretty much like a virus :)

Pleasssse when you say ... "Microsoft can stand back and see what happens. "

Your just basically saying copying...like MS always does...I think what MS will do is cripple iTunes from being installed in there "new" OS to give MS a competitive advantage...when they can't innovate they sabotage talk to netscape about that...and after the apple lawsuits it will be too late because current win-iPod users will be sick of trying to get iTunes to work and MS will introduce a tool to port iTunes DRM to MS DRM ..and thats when apple will slip but not by there own doing but by MS..

Everyone knows that MS and innovation does not go hand in hand - the windows experience is one of frustration and lack of choice...they are "dominating" due to lack of choice....I'm not advocating apple i'm advocating open standards so it would promote interoperability and not monopolization. MS is a monopoly - its just a shame that the DOJ did not break up MS when they had a chance...if they did we the consumer would have a winning situation not the brown terds that MS continues to produce.

I think the new zune features and marketplace set-up are very forward-looking. Maybe they can't compete with he iPod today, but microsoft is poised in waiting for apple to slip up a few years down the line. And in the mean time the rivalry makes for great office fodder:
