What do you think of the Zune 2?

Now that you’ve had some time to digest everything, what do you think about the Zune 2? I like my first generation Zune, but it’s difficult to manage because I don’t have a PC and I’m not about to run Boot Camp or Parallels for it. In most instances I like it over my iPod, but I have the first photo iPod and that’s obviously ancient compared to the Touch iPod. I can’t wait to get my hands on the Zune 2. What are your thoughts? Do you even care?

  • I’ll pick up a Zune80 on Nov. 13th…

  • Add me to list of people who will purchase a Zune 2 when released. Either a Zune 80 or a Zune 8… maybe I should buy both….

  • I’ll be buying a Zune 80GB on launch day or very soon afterwards.

  • Was there anything missing that you would have liked to have seen? Are you current Zune owners or iPod owners?

  • No Audible
    No Gapless
No Edit Playlists on the device

At least hasn’t been announced yet.

The audible thing is the kill joy for me:(

  • it has gapless support, and it is rumored to have both audible and playlist edit.

  • I received a free Zune (thanks to Live Club Search) a few weeks ago and for the longest time I tried to get rid of it for an iPod Classic but to no avail (no store would take it back without a receipt). Now I’m glad that I’ve kept it (firmware upgrade for the win!). I only wish that my Zune 30 was a tad bit thinner.

  • i own a zune, and i much prefer it over my 5G ipod. i’m very much looking forward to the new firmware update, and i imagine at some point in the next year i’ll upgrade to a zune 80 for the storage.
i’ll admit that the ipod touch is pretty cool, but 16 GB is nothing for my collection, and $400 is ridiculous. that said, i fully plan on getting an iphone soon. all that in mind, the zune beats the shit out of the ipod classic, and this is the accurate comparison. so, uh…yay zune.

  • At least it’s not completely worthless thanks to the firmware upgrade, right?

  • who needs audible?! Check GraphicAudio.net for audio cinema. Sorry if this comes off as blog spam, but their productions are dope!

  • I love the Zune and the new firmware update will fit me perfectly

Squircle! How can I say more? This unique feature comes from the biggest flock of overpaid Mensa Morons in history. Is there a stupid ray in Redmond and if so can anyone find the “OFF” switch?

  • I’m disappointed you guys haven’t made comments about the girl in the picture.

  • I can’t wait! I’m going to parlay the 80 and the 8 for running and stuff… the ONE thing i really wanted they added – i’m happy now… Media Center TV sync. This was ALMOST a deal killer with the first one but now that they have it… happy as a puppy.

    Apple sucks…

  • I was tempted to make a comment about the fact she looks like she’s chowing down on something but i decided making Blow Job jokes was crass and childish. Basically, they would suck.

    Sorry.

  • RE: Avatar:

Where did you hear that the Zune 2 has gapless playback? This is news to me as I’ve never seen anything mentioned about it all over the net.

  • The Zune 2 looks great (both versions) and I’d be in line to get one right away…but…no Audible support according to the MS announcements and according to the Audible rep I spoke to. Absolute deal-killer for me. I’d love to hear that Audible is supported. I run marathons (for some reason that even I don’t understand) and Audible is what keeps me on the road for that much time. I really don’t care much for the iPod I have – I especially dislike the touch-wheel control – but it looks like I’m stuck.

  • what is an audible? i’ve seen people talk about this before but guess im thick headed sometimes.

  • “Where did you hear that the Zune 2 has gapless playback? This is news to me as I’ve never seen anything mentioned about it all over the net.”

That’s because it was an outright lie on the behalf of “Avatar” as the Zune 2 doesn’t have gapless playback.

  • “what is an audible? i’ve seen people talk about this before but guess im thick headed sometimes.”

When people refer to “Audible,” they mean support for audio files from Audible.com, a source for spoken word content that can be played on a computer or mp3 player such as the iPod.

    http://www.audible.com

Like the first Zune, the Zune 2 doesn’t support Audible content.
