They should have checked Venezuela. A 4GB nano costs Bs. 1,214,416.00 (US$565.92). An unlocked iPhone costs Bs. 4,479,944.00 (US$2,087.65) (Both prices from lostabarato.com.)

It’s not just apple products that are abusively expensive. Every tecnology product here in Brazil is very expensive.
That’s because of the really, really (really), high importation taxes on tecnology stuff.
And to be honest, I don’t know why so high taxes, because Brazil simply don’t produce tecnology, we have NO internal product to compete with Apples and Microsofts, so why care about importation?
