Hehe... reminds me of when I went to the Verizon store to replace my Kyocera 7135 (for the uninitiated, that was one of the first smartphones, running PalmOS 4). I couldn't afford a Treo, so after browsing the not-as-smart handsets for a while (and after reading CNet at home), I settled on an LG VX8300.

As I was waiting for the rep to complete the purchase, another salesperson noticed which model I was getting. He came over, pulled out his VX8300, commented on how much he liked it, then said, "Let me show you a really cool feature." I was glad to get a tech tip on my new phone... after customizing my Kyo to the hilt, I was ready to hack this one.

The feature? A background (with only a tree and sky, no real landscape) that changed based on the time of day. If only he knew what level of geek he'd told it to, he'd understand why I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry... it certainly didn't bolster my confidence in VZW salespeople.

Oh, and I found BitPim soon after getting my LG, so the story has a happy ending.
