Sky Spies: Advanced bugs invading politics?

We try really hard to stay away from discussing politics here on the Gear, mostly so as not to reveal our leftist pinko commie attitudes. This story, however, is neutral, and gadgety, and scary.

Meet the robobug. These little fly-sized robots have been seen buzzing around political events in the NYC and DC areas. Nobody’s sure who sent them, or even what they’re capable of doing, but it can’t be good. It’s frightening to think of Big Brother as a fly on the wall, but there it is.

Um, actually, that photo is a Harvard prototype that still requires a power cord. The bugs at the DC events are not known to be spy bugs… one naturalist said that DC has very exotic species of dragonflies, and many of the descriptions would match dragonflies (though granted not all). Still, it’s possible that the CIA has improved on the bugs they invented during the 70’s, but as one roboticist pointed out, technology like cameraphones means it’s already easy to be spied on at rallies.
