Hello,

I need help in recording my Video Hi8 Anolog to DVD.

I have Sony Video Hi8 analog Camcorder and I have old cassettes that I have recorded. I have VRD-MC5. Now, I play the Sony Video Hi 8 connect it VRD-MC5. I finalize the DVD .

But, I am neither able to play it on video players nor able to play it in the computer. It says unrecognizable format and reboots the computer.

let me know what I am doing wrong here.
( Earlier, I am able to record from a Digital Sony Camcorder with no problems).

Thanks
Sundar

I dragged pics fro IPHOTO on my MacG5 on to a memory card, burned them to a DVD via DVDIRECT.
Apparently they came out as JPEGS and would not play on any DVD player, including Sony and my Computer. How come??? and how can this be corrected...thanx.

If the camera you're using has audio/video or S-video ouput with audio, or a DV output (firewire), then you should be able to connect the VRD-MC5 directly and record whatever the camera is recording. Most cameras must have a tape or harddrive to record on. The signal is passed through the camera's output but may turn off after a few minutes on standby (if tape or harddrive is not running). Be sure to finalize the disc after recording to play on DVD players.

The DVD Direct burner transfers audio/video, s-video w/separate audio hookup and firewire connected sources to burn DVD format discs on the the burner in real time. The 'finalized' disc will play on any DVD-compatible player and can be downloaded to editing software that accepts DVD discs. DVD's are mpg-2 format that work with the Studio 9, 10, 11 & 12 versions. I've done all these things with my VRD-VC20 with no problems. Transferred VHS, Digital8, Hi-8, MiniDV, Betamax, U-matic and Betacam formats.
The VRD-MC5 should be able to do so also! Read and follow the hookup and operating instructions and you should have no problems and better understanding what the burner can and cannot do.

I have the same problem. Also, it doesnt recognize my dv connection so I'm using s video and audio cables. Will probably take it back .. unless you've found a fix?

This device is horrible. It incorrectly reads "copyright information" and I have to use workarounds just to transfer old home videos to DVD. When I contacted Sony they insisted that I must've been trying to copy copyrighted material. I wasn't, but now I'm motivated to copy and distribute every purchased DVD I own that would cost Sony money.

Also, because of Sony's 'child-proofing' you can't truly edit/manipulate video and you absolutely CANNOT convert the input into MPEGs like you can with the HandyCams.

I used to love Sony products, but with each passing year they get harder to love. Their customer service is arrogant and rude anytime you have a problem other than something that can be solved by the drones in Malaysia with their customer service scripts.

Paula,

The unit should work fine for transfering your VHS tapes. I have done about 200 tapes with no problems.

I am also trying to figure out if I can change the titles and info so that I can name the event, like Pete's Birthday. Much simpler units can do this. Please advise anyone.

Does anyone know how to put two or three songs onto a slide show? I load all my pics onto a memory card, insert int the VDR MC5 and make slide shows. The card is loaded with three MP3 files, but the unit only read the first MP3 file. Is it possible to put multilple MP3 files, all together on one MP3 file?
Please let me know,
Thanks!
Robert
PS, I really like this little devide, got it on Craigs list, brand new for fifty bucks!

Vielen Dank
