New, tiny MacBook Pros this Month? Probably not

There’s a rumor flying around the Interwebs that on Leopard Day, October 26th, Apple would be launching an ultraportable MacBook Pro. As the rumor goes, it’d be in the form factor of a MacBook, but have all the MacBook Pro professional-grade hardware.

We’re saying it’s total horsecrap. While the MacBook Pro (like the MacBook) line is due for an upgrade (especially the 17-incher), an introduction of a new, small member doesn’t make sense right now. It wasn’t by accident that Apple left out a 12-inch MBP when the line was launched; the mini Powerbook had been eating iBook sales and wasn’t as profitable.

So there you have it. If, by chance, this rumor turns out to be true, I will destroy my beloved Blackout action figure live on the Internet for you all to watch. I’m serious.

No, it’s coming.

Don’t you mean the iBook sales were cannibalizing the 12″ PowerBook sales? The PowerBook was way more expensive than the iBook at the end of their lifecycles, and had very modest improvements. See here: http://www.pbcentral.com/news/viewnews.cgi?id=EpAlkluEEFJdBWaHKt

I don’t think a new product will be announced and released on a Friday either, but your reasoning doesn’t hold water.

You’re right, I meant it the other way around. I need more coffee.

Hmmmm. I thought this mini-mac notebook thing was what the Nanobook was? Apple was going to launch THIS product and call it the Nanobook? Can someone correct me if I’m wrong or? http://www.nanobook.info

Man, I wish I knew the answer to this… cause I’m in the market for a Macbook Pro right now… and I’m holding my breath to see if there’s a new one coming this month or not…

They’re going to release it! Steve Jobs is going to deliver one right to my doorstep! And then become pregnant with my children! I just know it!

“mini Powerbook had been eating iBook sales and wasn’t as profitable”
I’m curious where these facts came from? It could be true. Apple will release some type of ultraportable MacBook in the future. Apple barely has any of the laptop market in Japan and it’s because they don’t have an ultraportable laptop. Apple knows unless they release some type of ultraportable laptop they will never be able to compete in the Japanese laptop market.
