We absolutely love 3G and how it’s rolling out right now. AT&T loves 3G, too. So much, in fact, that its giving away its brand new Sierra Wireless 881 card for free (after shifty rebate) when you sign-up for a two-year soul-sucking contract at $59.99 a month (for unlimited data, $29.99 for 10MB or less).

Now, we’ve used AT&T’s HSDPA network and got download speeds of 1.2Mbps, and upload speeds of 322Kbps. The 881, however, uses the even faster, newer HSUPA standard. This means theoretical downlink speeds of up to 5.76Mbps. That’s fast. You can expect AT&T to support the 1.46Mbps or 2.93Mbps speeds for now, and as with all wireless data, your milage may vary.
