Rumor: Guitar Hero hardware won’t work with Rock Band

I don’t play Guitar Hero because I suck at it so I’m not sure why this is even such a big deal, but apparently it is so I’m letting you all know. There was some speculation earlier that axes from GH 1 and 2 would be compatible on Rock Band, but I heard that Harmonix isn’t down with that. In fact, they pretty much told he/she/it that it’s not going to happen. Why that would matter to anyone, I’m not sure. I don’t play the game so that’s probably why, right?

Just thought I’d drop in and let you know that this rumor is not true. I recently interviewed a Harmonix rep and he assured me that the Guitar Hero II controllers for the Xbox 360 will in fact work on Rock Band. He has personally used the X-plorer on test builds of the game.
The biggest question is whether or not the Guitar Hero III controller will work on Rock Band. Red Octane really doesn’t want the interoperability, Harmonix on the other hand, they’re cool with it.
