The Torpedo Projector: You know, for kids

It’s not HD, it’s not high-end, but for $169 the Torpedo Entertainment Projector might get the kids out of the living room for a while so you can watch Grey’s Anatomy. The projector connects to almost any device and projects an image six feet high on a blank wall. It has a 940×240 resolution and includes a headphone jack so junior’s game of Sexy Poker won’t interrupt Shabbat dinner.
It’s available now at Wal-Mart and Target and we’ll give it a whirl to see if its a worthy addition to your special guy room.

This projector is a great starter kit. Sometimes the best way to see if an idea will work is to make a draft. My inlaws are amazed when I aim this thing @ the wall and the kids love it. It’s terribly washed out during the day,but @ night the quality is okay on a wall…

When the sun goes down it works great with a dvd player, 6 x8 silver tarp at the campsite!! We just bought a easy-up 12X12 with a white wall on on side, screen mesh on the other 1/2 can’t wait till spring! Happy Camper

i just bought one of these as i am redesigning my room for maximum space and a projector takes up less space than a tv. how good is the quality, there are no stray light sources in my room and it gets pitch black in there, will that make the quality better.
can anyone recommend how i could make it better as i play a lot of online games

OK, if you don’t expect HD, and understand this is a TOY….they are actually quite a bit of fun…. without the big price tag!! If you are looking for high quality you are better off going for the real thing which includes those high price bulbs
There are a few things I did to make mine a bit better than when I first got it. I replaced the 35w 12v MR16 bulb with a 50w 12v MR16 Color Correct bulb that I bought at Wal-Mart for 7.00. It doesn’t seem to get any warmer that it did before but I don’t think I would attempt to go to any higher wattage. Replacing the bulb gave me a better picture and color.
Also what you watch it ON will make a BIG difference in the picture quality. The reflective qualities of your background will effect the picture quality of any projector. A white wall will still give you a bit of blurr. I tried several backgrounds before I found what worked well for me. I tried a white wall, a white bed sheet, a cheap, smooth, white shower curtain but what I finally settled on was an old style room darkening pull down shade, again from Wal-mart. This was a bit more money ($30.00) but really worth it. I was a little worried about trying this at first because in the store the white shade looked gray, but it works perfectly! From 10 feet away the picture fits edge to edge on a 73 1/4″ shade. It also has the added convenience of rolling up out of the way when not in use.
Now if I can just figure out how they are adding surround sound to these, I will be set. :-).. Although the built-in speakers work quite well.
