"When it has lots of items, you get sort of a cloud of unrelated items that is just overwhelming."

Since people would neither tend to stack a lot of "unrelated" items together nor have more than a screenful (if that many) of icon-represented items that might benefit from being in a stack, the complaint about "lots of items" is not very meaningful. Frankly, I don't think most people would want to stack more than 20 or 30 items together if they're being true to the metaphor. (In real life, managing a stack with a large number of items is counterproductive, so trying that on the computer is not what one would expect.)

"However, Leopard has improved overall OS X stability and my M-Audio hardware no longer randomly freezes my computer."

Is this because your computer no longer detects said M-Audio hardware? That seems to be the case for everyone else, including me.
There are no drivers that enable their products to work on OSX 10.5 yet (that I know of anyway, and I've been looking!)

re: Spaces

I think you are being a bit harsh on Spaces. Especially since two monitors are not exactly portable. I have used and thrown out multiple desktop programs on Windows and Macs for years. They were either too slow, too kludgy, gets in the way, or just plain didn't work. Spaces is the first one that I find actually usable. This type of application really needs to be built into the OS and Spaces proves it. Its quick, switching between 'spaces' is intuitive, and it doesn't get in the way. Its the new feature I like most about leopard.
