You Make It You: First Zune 2 ad

v2.0 of the Zune is fast approaching its November 13th launch date and the first ad appeared yesterday revolved around the “You Make It You” campaign. I can’t quite understand what’s going on in the ad so watch for yourselves. A new site, www.zunejourney.net, was also launched for the campaign to help educate consumers on the basic features of the Zune and what to expect from the v2 platform.

Thats the problematic when you invest too much in advertising. The more you invest the worser it will get.

Instead of presenting the product, which Apple does in a great way, the advert is only representing the idea of how to behave with the product. Thats what wrong turning point for marketing!

I actually like creative ads more than “how to” videos…

I wonder how many people will buy this thinking it has a touch screen…

Obviously these ads aren’t for the more literal minded amoungest us :)

Personally I really liked the ad but then again I already know all the details about the upcoming Zune 2’s so I don’t need to be informed about anything, I’m just looking for entertainment. It has to be hard to market a PMP these days since music and media are so subjective and personal. I find the trippy Alice in Wonderland style really cool while others hate it and I have a feeling the ads that would work for the Alice-haters would probably bore me or come off as too commerical or stiff.

@namX: I have to disagree with you, I find the new Zune ad on the same level as Apple’s commercials. A silouhette of a dancing person with earbuds does nothing to tell me about the iPod, or I should say it tells me about the same things as the Zune ad. That it’s about media and that it’s “fun”. The Zune ad obviously focuses heavily on discovery while the Apple ones are more geared towards plain rocking out but they do it in the same way.

Apparently, iPod marketing are after people who like listening to music while Zunes are geared towards those who enjoy a little LSD with their coffee.
