Many of you may recall my recent rants about the Sidekick 3 and how much it sucked ass. I mean, seriously, I paid over $400 for the biggest POS known to man. Danger makes a phenomenal OS and Sharp and T-Mo go and screw it all up. The hardware was atrocious and that’s putting it lightly. The phone was horrible. Everyone complained of echoing and I could never hear what they were saying. I regretted spending so much money regardless of the fact that I snagged it early enough to cash in on the non-contract extension fiasco. There was no point in upgrading from the Sidekick 2. I didn’t need Bluetooth, an MP3 player or any of the other asinine features that lured me in. What the hell were you thinking, T-Mobile/Sharp/Danger? And what was the iD all about? That was just a trimmed down SK2 sans camera. Whatever.
My faith has been revived with the LX and Slide, but I’ve grown tiresome of all the features that the LX boasts. Don’t get me wrong, the screen is gorgeous and huge, but like I said, I don’t need all the media functions it possesses. I just need e-mail, AIM (Danger’s AIM client will always be the best) and a decent Web browsing experience. The Slide essentially fills the messaging device’s shoes rather nicely. When I first saw both devices a few months back, I was quickly drawn to the Slide. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, though. Was it just the new hardware from Motorola or…hell, that’s why I was drawn to it. So, really, all we need to discuss is the hardware. The OS has slight changes that aren’t really worth mentioning. But feel free to ask in Comments. So, as a hardcore Sidekick fanboy were my expectations finally fulfilled? Maybe.
Form factor-wise the Slide is the best Sidekick to date. It’s slim, lightweight and the black and purple color scheme is fantastic. I can finally tolerate putting it in my pocket, too. But I do have my gripes with it. The keyboard isn’t the best. The buttons are too small and cramped together. Some of the keys don’t seem to move at all and I’m constantly checking to see if I’ve missed a letter, but to my surprise it’s all gravy. Which is a good thing, but I just wish there was more of a tactile response. The d-pad is a little too big IMO, but the Slide’s sleek design quickly extinguishes any misgivings I begin to have about it. It works fine and I just need a few more days to adjust. The trackball is a little too recessed for me. I feel like I’m digging into its cubbyhole when using it to scroll through the menu. But it’s now black and doesn’t show as much dirt so we’re par for the course. The screen is considerably brighter, though, the LX’s screen is much bigger and way nicer since Sharp dropped in their AQUOS screens. It’s still a step up from the SK3. I also like that the blinking indicator moved from the trackball to the d-pad on the Slide. It’s not as bright and obnoxious now. The 1.3-megapixel camera sucks. There’s no flash and it’s still 1.3, so whatever. I rarely use it anyway.
So how’s the phone? It’s fine. I haven’t had any complaints and the speakerphone is leaps and bounds above the SK3. I can actually hear people now without constant crackling. Reception is exponentially better then the SK3 and even the iD, which I thought had killer reception. Upon exiting subway stations I already have service before I step onto the street. The SK3 usually took a few minutes before reconnecting to the network while the iD took a minute or less. The strange thing I noticed over the weekend when I was in Brooklyn at Biggs’ house was that I had a better signal strength then Biggs’s LX, but my GPRS was being wonky and not connecting. A simple soft reset did the trick, but I’ve had to do that a couple more times since then so I’m a bit skeptical now.
Here’s my biggest gripe with the Slide. I want my swiveling screen. That’s what sets the Sidekick apart from all other phones. The form factor is nice, but I don’t like the sliding screen. It makes it very difficult to use one handed where as the swiveling screen was a piece of cake. Why did they even market this as a Sidekick? I still like it, but I miss my swiveling screen. Battery life isn’t the greatest either. I took my Slide off the charger around 8am today and it’s already at 60 percent. I haven’t even used the phone today. I’ve been IMing infrequently and texting with a two minute window where I was browsing the Web. Thankfully you can charge via USB so I’ll forget about the battery life. It also helps that I have my Solio with me at all times.
All in all, the Slide is what I had hoped the SK3 would have been. Its small form factor and design is top notch. I don’t look like one of the kiddies anymore. It’s nice to see someone other than Sharp take a swipe at the Sidekick line. It’s refreshing and I hope they continue to manufacture future handsets, but I want my swivel screen back.
Update Ok, so the camera isn’t that bad when the lighting is perfect, but the lack of flash that’s existent on the SK3 and LX makes me wonder why Moto didn’t include one.
I should also mention that there is an MP3 player on the Slide, but it can only be activated when a microSD is inserted with content or you’re connected via USB.
The sidekick slide is tight but it restarts and the internet is super slow.

MY COMPLAINTS ARE IF YOUR TRYING TO USE IT WHILE U R CHARING IT U BEND THE CORD AND I HAD TO REPLACE MY CHARGER ONCE, THE CHARGE AREA ON THE PHONE IS JUST IN THE WRONG PLACE. ALSO IF IM TEXTN AND MY FINGER HITS THE POWER BOTTOM ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT MY PHONE TURNS OFF, SO THE POWER BUTTON IS ALSO IN THE WRONG SPOT. THERE IS NO BLUE TOOTH, SO FORGET ABOUT IT. I’ve had my slide for about a month now and my biggest complaint is that it powers off out of no where, and when i turn it back on all my contacts and pictures are gone! Do you know how i can fix that at home?

I am getting one soon, and I would like to know if the phone is noisy. Like when you slide the screen up and down because I do that alot kinda a nervous habit. Anyway and when you roll the trackball. Can you turn the sound off on the trackball because I know on the blackberry you can.
Well I have been having my sidekick side 4 maybe about 3 or 4 months from after switching from an lx and ever since then I am not able 2 receive picture messages thru my phone number but rather thru my tmail…..any1 knows how 2 fix it??? Please cuz I called tmobile and they haven’t helped me yet
i have the slide, yes it has bluetooth and i haven’t had it for long, and i really havent taken the time to wonder if theres video? is there, and yesh the swivel is just the only step down form all the other sidekicks..
Iv had my sidekick for about a month and a half and you can’t connect bluetooth to other phones only computers and you can send files like that. The bad things: the key board is stiff, keyboard kinda close together (does’nt effect if you have little fingers), the camera is not that good and it always turns out darker than it looks but I take the mem. Card and put it in my computer and brighten it up. THE GOOD: screen is bright, a lot of settings so your phone is “you” that’s it
TIP: GUYS DON’T PUT CELL PHONES IN YOUR FRONT POCKET OR YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE KIDS. UNLESS YOU DON’T WANT KIDS!!
Can u or can u not use downloaded songs as ringtones. Can u use ur own pictures as wallpapers and can u send bluetooth from one phone to the other on the slide

i have the sidekick slide and i hate it so much it as a crap phone i would not say it to eny one to by it it a weat of mony it dis not have relly good bluetooth and i wish i niver hade the phone im on a 18 moth contrat and im and not happy with it one bit
Ok, i’ve had this phone since christmas. it’s an alright phone for people with small hands. if you have big fingers, i wouldnt recomend it, it will be very hard to text. But, if you have small fingers like me, its very easy. The battery life sucks, and I text alot, and I have to charge it once or twice a day AFTER charging it the whole night. The camera is OK, it’s alooot better if there’s a lot of light. I’ve got service in South Carolina and Florida. I dont think Tmobile sells it anymore, so it would be very hard to find one. I love instant messaging on this phone, and I have the app. for myspace, which I like also. Call quality is very good also. I’ve only had mine shut off once and I lost all my info.. but ive dropped it down stairs and on the ground many times and it’s still working fine. It doesn’t record videos, and the picture messaging doesnt work for me, but the email is great. I ordered the Samsung Gravity today, and I can’t wait to get it.

Im currently using my sidekick slide online.. Im really upset with the quality. I’ve had for a year and one month. It was fine at first and now its beginning 2 act up. It tells me I need a sim when the sim is in there. Im really disappointed.. It restarts itself. Just recently it happend 2 my sister. She went over 2 the tmobile store and they told her she had 2 call 2 get them replaced. Wat can a slide get replaced with? Im tired of this phone!!! I need some closure..
I took the sidekick slide back to T-Mobile after paying FULL RETAIL price, and got no satisfaction or help in regards to the issues that this phone was presenting, ( Blue Springs, Mo. store) I does shut off, then when it turns back on, it can never connect to a network, and can only make emergency calls. It’s ben USELESS! They offered no refund, exchange, discount on another phone, NOTHING> After 7-8 years and thousands of dollars with this company T-Mobile, I’m going Verison, and suggest you do the same.
Yeah, this phone totally suck’s ass! Not even worth getting. I have been having this phone for a little over a year and I hate it. I am trying too come up with the money too get the Tmobile Samsung Behold. I have heard it’s a good phone. It’s true of course, that the Sidekick Slide, is pretty cool, and sweet “LOOKING” But when you actually use the phone it sucks. I bought this phone for $99 at walmart, and the starting fee, for the plan was over $100! So I bought this phone all together for $215. And im totally ashamed I got it. There’s lots of problems. You cannot put a back ground of like your puppy, or your friends, you can only put the backgrounds that they have for you which is only like 4, and they are not even cool! They phone every once in a while freezes up, then just turns off by it’s self, then I have too turn it on, and all my contacts, pictures, texts, everything is DELETED!!! Trust me it pisses you off, when you have too type 200 contacts back in your phone, it seems like every two weeks! It only hold 100 text’s so once your inbox is all filled up, you can’t do anything til they are deleted. You can only save like 14 top pictures in your phone that you have taken. The camera quality sucks. The volume button is on the bottom right side of the phone, so it’s soo easy for the phone too turn up by its self, by just putting it back in your purse or pocket, there’s been a few times in class my phone goes off because I had a text message, and I had it turn down, but when I put it in my purse it turned up, and I got my phone tooken away. You can’t use ringtones that you have recorded, or someone has sent you, you can only use the ones they have in your phone already, or the gay ones you want too buy off the internet using the phone. You can’t record voice for no more than 20 seconds. And you cant save the voice recording either. The buttons are way too small. When you have the phone turned up, you hear all the noises the phone makes and it gets annoying, because every SINGLE button on the phone makes a different annoying noise! If I take out the battery, or my phone drops and the battery pops out, everything in my phones hard drive is deleted. You cannot get MP3’s on your phone without this memory card, you have to buy it doesn’t come with the phone. Everytime I turn my phone off, and turn it back on, this thing pops up and says “Please wait, while we activate your phone.” And my phone has been activated when I got it, its been saying that for over a year now. So too get off that screen you have too hit, the top left corner button, and “L” at the same time. Also you can’t record a video, suckss total asss. After a while the sidekick slide, starts too get kinda loose, like the part you slide up, starts to get wobblee, like where it’s getting loose.
I seriously dispise this phone, and im very dissapointed, I always wanted a sidekick when I was younger, then I got one and I wish I didnt! I should have gotten the Sony ericson slider, way better phone, my friend has one and it works great.

i’m looking into buying a Slide, but looking at all of these comments and seeing that it restarts itself and loses your data makes me curious as to if i should buy it. it has been two years since those posts though so hopefully the Slide has been updated? Please reply back!
welll, i have at&t, and ive been wanting a sk slide for a lonnng time, and im getting it in the mail in a few days, its unlockedd, which means i can use it, but i cant send or recieve pics or anything with the mms messaginggg, which suckkks. does anyone know why you cant do that when you unlock the phone?
Im so tired of my slide that in about 2 weeks im going over 2 at&t and getting an iphone.. The slide isn’t worth the money I pay for.. Its been nothing but problems.. I mean its cute but problematic.. I wouldn’t recommend it..
I got the sode kick lx its stylish and I like the colors the internt is good I get and recive pics with bluetooth with out problems the camara is great the pica come out clear and it has flash it is slow at reciving emailsover all I think its a great phone and I recommened (the slide sucks though)
