What’s the benefit of a DLP HDTV?
by Peter Ha on November 5, 2007

I’m sure you’ve seen the DLP commercials floating around and you may have wondered what the fuss was about, right? It’s quite simple, really. DLP technology is wicked fast thanks to all the crazy mirrors that are involved. It has an eight-microsecond response time and a refresh rate up to 300hz and tends to be 1,000 times faster than most other HDTVs. Still not sure what’s going on? Just watch Mr. 720 do his thing.

Duuuuude, totally, right?!

I’ve got a DLP television and its awesome for watching sports. Your right, it really is 1,000 times faster than LCD and plasma and you don’t get any motion blur. It’s also good for gaming.

Too bad DLP sucks ass compared to HD-ILA. Too bad TI doesn’t tell their viewers about their crap ass color wheel that spins and, well, eventually breaks and also leaves artifacts on the screen due to the fact that if something has to move to create the picture it will never be fast enough. It’s called the “Rainbow Effect” — and I’m not talkin’ ’bout no pride fest here. HD-ILA is the winner in this category, too bad it’s a whole lot less talked about. Unfortunately HD-ILA just doesn’t get the press it deserves. Go check one out, it’ll put your DLP to shame!

hd-ila tech is simply lcd in a new wrapper. The only way they can become anywhere near as fast as dlp is if they make the liquid crystal layer ridiculously thin. Seeings how the color is in the liquid crystal layer this would dramatically affect the color richness(which isnt great already) Besides with a dila you still have to use a mercury vapor high intensity discharge lamp, these are not energy efficient(atleast 200w) and have a distinctly green hue.
My 3d hd LED DLP 1080p Samsung, has the ability to turn the LED’s off in dark scenes, not just block the light. My buddy has a JVC 61″ 1080p hdila and I totally notice how much brighter my tv is in white scenes and rich color scenes. Black levels pretty similar.
As well the JVC had a noticable pixel structure.
I am convinced that even though my Sammy was about $500 more than the JVC it was worth every penny.

The new DLP’s use LED technology. There is no color wheel to deal with or bulb to replace. This also eliminates the “rainbow effect” which is no longer an issue to the small percentage of people it effected in the first place.

Doesn’t HD-ILA have an issue with green spots anyway???
