A friend sent this to me and I’m not exactly sure what to think of it. Part of me enjoys watching old videos like this and seeing what’s come to fruition and what ideas are still being thrown around some 50 years later. Then the other part of me is just creeped out at how subservient the women in this video are being. I know it’s a commercial for Frigidaire products and all, but come on, you can’t tell me this isn’t some scary shit. This is cut from the Stepford Wives. It’s super weird. I can’t watch any longer, yet, I’m completely enamored by it.

Subservient women? Where? All I saw was an actress comically walking around in a supposed dream. I didn’t see anything that resembled her being subservient. I know there is a stereotype of subservient women from that time frame, but this video isn’t an example of that.
What it is, however, is an excellent look into the future from the past. I love watching video’s like this. Just to see if anything they predicted came true.
But subservient women? I think you are reading too much into it.
It’s the fact that they’re in the kitchen all happy and keen to be there doing menial tasks.
