This is what all the fuss is about? Whether or not it’s true remains to be seen, but if this is the first app for Android then I’m going to laugh my ass off. WhatsOpen tells you what’s open. The Android OS is so awesome. Wow.

What’s more useful to a real person, this application or any of the various unofficial iPhone apps one could call the first one (the Hello World app, the terminal emulator, the pseudo Web server)? And what’s more likely to lead to awesomeness, an OS with an official SDK, or the JesusPhone and its homebrew apps likely to be broken with OS upgrades? This will change of course when the AllahPhone gets an SDK.

As a frequent traveler I am already half-sold on an Android phone. This WhatsOpen app would be one of the first I download. Asking the hotel staff where I can get something to eat at 9 pm is, shall we say, inefficient.

Recent competition has risen with the Australian search engine site that looks into the niche late night and 24 hour market, check out http://www.whatsopen.com.au
