Police pounding down the door? Cyborg monkey spies crawling through the drain pipes? Ninjas threatening your babies? Erase your drive with the Drive Erazer ($99.95).This eraser is completely self-contained and even powers the drive as it erases. It takes about two hours to erase a 250 gigabyte drive — not too good if the zombies are coming for your data but good enough if you just want to sell your old PC at a garage sale.

It requires a power adapter and is also with a number of attachments for ZIP, PCMCIA, and flash drives. The Pro Model ($149.95) even does multi-pass erasing

  • My system for erasing a HD is simple, it involves a trip to Home Depot to get a sledge hammer and a very powerful magnet.

Step 1: Apply magnet all over the HD and swosh it around
Step 2: Gently wack the heck out of the HD using a very heavy sledge hammer
Step 3: dig a hole in the backyard, place HD pieces along with the magnet with a stick of Ram as the tombstone.

    Done!

  • When the company i used to work for was taken over, we were instructed to destroy most of the HDs from the servers.

It was quite fun throwing them around the car park and against the back of the office (no windows).

    Good workout too.
