I actually agree with the name. When I think of Blu-ray, I think about those discs that didn't become popular in the mid to late 90s. I think we had a player at my school but we never used it, plus I think the discs were rather large. There are still a lot of people that don't even know there is a format war going on, etc. It's a shame, can't we just stop all the wars.

I'm not going to say which is better, BluRay or HD DVD, but, you know why HD DVD should stand a better chance of winning?

It has the better name.

Consumers understand 'HD'. They understand that they get a better quality picture with their HD TV (heck, even with out HD signal, they probably are getting a better picture than their old non-HD tv that is probably 10 years old).

Honestly, the first thing I think of when I hear 'Blu-Ray'? "It's blue! It's beautiful!"

I have seen data that says PS3 sales were very good during black friday, and over the past couple of weeks in general. I think the jury is out until some one takes into account ALL bluray and HDDVD capable devices.

I personally think, for basic movie-watching, both formats are functionally equivalent at this point. I also think the game consoles (PS3 and XBOX360 w/ HDDVD add-on) play a HUGE role in which format will gain more market penetration.

In the mean time, citing some press release from the HDDVD or BD associations is hardly newsworthy. Both sides have been less than honest in reporting data and what they choose to not take into account.

I used to think HD DVD was the best. I guess I got this idea from reading blogs and such, but I think I've changed my mind. Blu-ray is backed by more companies and it seems to be more widely used and liked. I haven't invested in either format and probably won't for quite some time.

Also, this information was published by "NA HD DVD promotional group". How accurate is the data? Especially when the PS3 dropped in price, etc.
