I hope they build you a store in SC soon. The only reason they're opening another NY store is that it is guaranteed to be profitable. The other two are always packed and have a lot of sales. I've even heard mentioned that the 5th Av store is the most profitable of all the Apple stores. It doesn't matter to Apple when the stores are open, just as long as each is profitable.

Plus, the spot came available. It's harder to control when the real estate is available. I wouldn't be surprised if they're not eyeing some locations in SC already. My best guess would be Myrtle Beach because it has all that extra tourist traffic to help make the store profitable. That's another reason why the NY stores do so well (besides the millions of people that live with 5 miles of the store). They would locate the store either in a fancy mall or on a street near other upscale stores. If you see other apparel shops, eg. a few designers' stores in close proximity and/or the mall shops that cater to teenagers, then that would be a good spot for Apple. When you see a Store Available sign in close proximity to these others, call Apple. Who knows they may even be a little gift in it for you as a thank you.

If the space is ready they could probably do a build out in a few months. Good luck to you.
