I just got a great new motherboard and one of its selling points was support for DDR3 RAM. Tom’s Hardware recently posted a shootout showing that DDR3 mobos and RAM were merely a promising, emerging technology. So why is Samsung busting out this alien technology when people are still deciding whether to switch from DDR2? Because this RAM will be integrated with graphics cards (hence the “G” in “GDDR5″) rather than be used as system RAM, allowing for “the smoothest, clearest animation that gamers have yet to experience.” I think that has a lot more to do with the game’s engine and developers, but fast RAM will certainly help out. My guess is that it still won’t run Crysis.
