The HD DVD player is just an added bonus for those of you who have an HDTV and may already own an Xbox. Setup is easy and the extras on HD DVD discs are pretty neat to play around with. You’re already on Live, which means you’re connected to the Web so it only makes sense that you’ll be accessing the extras. I only watch Transformers anyway. Megan Fox is HAWT in HD.
i think “hands-down the best in the market” is a bit of an optimistic oversight. it certainly isn’t the most commercially successful.

The point of these recommendations is for us, CG writers, to tell you folks what we like and what we think could make great gifts. I’m not saying the PS3 isn’t worth a recommendation, but I don’t have one so I can’t recommend it. Maybe someone else on staff will. Great suggestion for someone who wants HD gaming AND HD movies at a reat price. the 360 is tested and has a great library of games. Additionally MS keeps coming out with updates and new features for this platform. With HDMI out, its tough to say no to this setup!

I totally agree with Peter Ha, I tested the PS3 and I own an X-Box with the HD DVD drive, and I must say that the X-Box is indeed the best console I’ve ever had. The HD DVD drive is just great and I always enjoy to watch a movie with it on my 42″ REGZA HDTV between two gaming sessions. So it is also my recomendation for this holiday !
You got to admit guys, the 360 does have a better selection of games over the PS3. I do own both, but still find myself purchasing more for my 360. I guess the PS3 will just pose as a Blu-ray player until ps3 picks up on gaming content. 360 is definitely a good buy for the xmas season. I still feel hung dry with my ps3.
I’ll endorse the PS3 when games are built for that platform. Otherwise you’re just watching Blu-ray discs. Until then the 360 is much better and has a better selection of games.

Are you retarded? I just listed 7 great games all rated excellent, 6 1st party titles all available on the PS3.
There are about 35 some titles on PS3 that rate over 80% on metacritic, about half the titles that are rated over 80% on the 360(70). While the PS3 has roughly 30 some crap titles rated under 70%, and Xbox 360 has 150 some crap titles rated under 70%.

I guess by your definition PS3 has to reach Xbox 360 status, of 71 highly rated titles, out of 310 titles, and over half of the titles (150) titles be crap.

The PS3 has built in WiFi, Built in HD player and is free to play online. All things you have to pay extra for on the 360. It also has HDMI 1.3 which is superior to the 1.2 used on the ‘Elite’ because it offers Dolby TrueHD.

I own all three systems, the wii, xbx360 and ps3. All can be played at any time by a simple selection on our A/V controller. In my house the xbox360 gets played about 75% of the time and the wii gets played the least.
What kind of journalist are you? You obviously didn’t do any research as indeed the 360 HD-DVD player addon is rated “THE WORST!”. This post is a simple reason why I stick mainly to Gizmodo and Engadget for tech news. Also why did you leave the fact that XBOX 360 has the highest failure rate out of any system ever made in history and on top of it all, the thing is as loud as a plane engine.

I just read this article. It was buried in my rss feeds. Ha, looks like you stirred some minds with this post. Fact is, the HD DVD addon does suck. My roommate has it and it keeps heating. The X360 is not very reliable and has many problems. Aside from that, it does have a better game collection no doubt. Not for long though. If you are not a casual gamer, most likely you will end up with a PS3 in this generation. The reasoning is simple, its got nothing to do with love/hate of Sony or MS. Sony has a lot more studios than MS. Sony has a great line of AAA game studios that will release exclusives Microsoft never dreamed of.
I think MS is getting there though but not fast enough (maybe next gen they will do better). Sony is picking up their slack and mobilizing, Home, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, FF XIII, and FF vs XIII are only what you know about. I can’t think of a title coming out soon for the X360 that people are really passionate about. You can mention Halo Wars or what not. At the end of the day, Halo is an over-rated FPS. Bioshock adds some creativity to the genre at least. FPSes need an over-haul and MS milked that Halo brand like no other. They even sold a couple of units in Japan for a change.
As for the winning HD format, the numbers talk. Blu-Ray is taking over (talking numbers). Once the holiday numbers are out in Jan08, WB will make their stance. The consumers are losing out on this one you as someone who should hold the reader’s best interest in mind should not recommend something that might disappear in a few months.

Hey…..the wii is also something ok to consider. ..I understand it looks like a toilet wand, but it seams to be ok. People are always looking at games and such that are hardcore shooters and racers. WHat about maybe not focusing on a specific genre, but on what is fun and gives you a good time! Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Corruption, Zelda Twilight Princess, and Super Smash Bros Brawl are all great games!

The 360- has a fantastic gme selection! However, it does not matter how great the games are if you have to pay for a million things to end up having a broken system in a month!
The PS3-in every way, it has a positive side. It has bad games =, but better ones to come! It has unoriginal yet classic controller design. It is jampacked with expensive technology for an expensive yet worhty price. They have a great foundation, but they have not built on it yet!!!!!!!
