The Wachowski Brothers who are soon to be Wachowski brother and sister have teamed up to bring the 1960s anime onto the big screen and it’s making me trip out. That’s like being on acid. Not that I know what that’s like, but I’d imagine that’s what life is like when you’re on it. Holy crap this movie is going to rock. If you have no idea what Speed Racer is then you seriously need to educate yourself by going here.

That may be the worst trailer I’ve ever seen. It will be interesting if the movie can approach that level of crap*tastic entertainment. If it can, it may just be the worst movie in the history of man.
I think this is the MPAA’s solution to stopping movie piracy.
This looks like it is going to be a terrible movie. It makes the classic mistake of westernizing American cinema by stripping out all the cool wonky and in this case Japanese flavor from the original and sticking with the “story”. In most cases the “story” isn’t very good. Godzilla, the story isn’t great, and neither is the case here. He’s saving the world by winning auto races? What they did wrong was try to make the rediculous into a semblance of the serious and lfet al the cool off-beat wackiness in the colorful production. And that production looks terrible and not much like the original. Speed Racer was never this colorful. It also doesn’t help that the action sequences look like B-roll from the Matrix on acid.
Ultimately, Speed Racer was a gamble that paid off. It was the sum of alot of strange and wonderful parts. It wasn’t supposed to work. The story didn’t make sense. The translation from Japanese should have turned people off. The strange aping of a japanese take on American racing culture… There were a million reasons why this shouldn’t have worked and despite that, it did. It had a singular charm. Never even speaking of the translation from drawn animation to live action, the movie itself doesn’t feel like Speed Racer at all, it’s like the village people doing a rendition of Shakespeare. All you see is costumes and landish.
I did saw the movie and it really is great! Just have some lovely time watching this, because it is a beautiful movie, with a honest story and a inocent plot, colorfull and cheerfull, just like the original. I sensed a little bit of sadness in the background…just like the original!
