I’m currently debating whether I should feel safe or frightened knowing that Boeing’s Advanced Tactical Laser has been successfully installed on a C-130H. The high energy chemical laser was completed on the 4th of this month in New Mexico at Kirtland Air Force Base. The entire system weighs an astonishing 12,000-pounds. Testing of the system along with a demonstration will occur sometime next year where the laser will be fired from a rotating turret on the belly of the C-130H at mission-representative ground targets. Previous tests were done in June on a ‘low-power’ setting where the laser found and tracked moving and stationary targets. I just soiled myself.

  • This will be for sale at Wicked Lasers next month. :)

  • So when do we hack into the army computers and redirect the test target to be our douche bag professor and fill his house with pop corn?

  • Talk about a blast from the past, Ryan!

  • So, i guess we should start wrapping our bunkers in aluminiumfoil then?

  • Don’t worry, Boeing won’t try to kill us all, otherwise, they won’t have anyone to sell big ass airplanes to anymore.

  • Remember the days when computers used to only fit in rooms the size of C130s. Then, as time passed they kept getting smaller to the point where now they fit in your pocket. Gulp!

Hey Ryan…. good stuff bro. Good stuff.

  • Interesting they put it on a C-130 as they top out at 35K feet and 350knots. Kinda slow for something that is “attacking”. C-130’s are usually only transport or communications planes.

Love the War Games ref! Ah the things that could be done with dial-up.

  • Ezekiel- It’s pretty reasonable that they’d put it on a C-130, that particular airframe is a very reliable close-air support aircraft as seen with the AC-130 series, as well as having the ability to remain on station for a long length of time.

  • Hopefully the US Government is keeping its eyes open for Val Kilmer. Can’t let him sabotage another death ray, methinks.

Ahhh, Real Genius. The female lead in that film was hot.

  • C-130 is an ideal platform for this. The C-130 is tactical lift workhorse of the Air Force. Simple, rugged, you can set them down just about anywhere.

Plus, the Air Force has more of these damn things than you can shake a stick at! :)

You guys have no doubt heard about the 747 mounted version, designed to kill ICBMs in their launch phase, right?

  • Photoshopped!
