As you’ve probably noticed, CrunchGear got a makeover for Xmas. Gone is the sickly yellorange color scheme, and we’ve made some changes to how things are organized as well; things should be much easier to find throughout the whole site.
You’ll also notice that comments are now threaded, so no more of this “@ asshat” stuff we’ve been doing the last year. In addition, you can rate comments and, if you so choose, view only those above a certain threshold that you decide. There’s a “profile” button next to each commenter’s name, you can see what else they’ve been up to.
You’ll also notice a new home for BFF, CruncGear’s reader’s site, on the right hand side. That’s for you, use it.
There’s a lot more as well, but you’ll have to poke around and find it yourself. We’ve redone it with you in mind, so feel free to use the comments on this post to let us know what you like, don’t like, hate, love, whatever. The rest of the TechCrunch network will be getting a similar treatment in the next few weeks, so whatever you’d like to see, this is your chance to give us your input.
Big shout out to ACS for the design work, to Alex King from Crowd Favorite for the development assistance, and Media Temple for dealing with us as we upgraded.
We’ve got a little before-and-after action for you after the jump.

I love it.
YAY!. Looks great but if I had to pick at something, I will pick at this. It looks a lot like Engadget, BUT better executed and not as cluttered.
What’s engadget?
engadget is an apple fanboi sit, i call ‘em “enapplegadget”
Hay, what happened to the best commenter ever? Is it still happening or what?
Yes. The last two days have been a little lean for hilarious comments but I’m cautiously optimistic that tonight’s the night for the triumphant return of Teh.Be$T.Kommenter.Evar!
wth do you expect? gigo…
The new style looks MUCH MUCH better. Well done!
sweet! I’m gonna miss the @asshat though…[sniff]
mmmm Sexxxay!
course I’m talking about another site with bjoobies.
Yours is pretty cool.
me like threaded comments. @Rob the Drummer – OH DAMN MY EYES!
this is bloody AMAZINGLY better. Nice work!
These new comments are so sexy.
nice, but I liked the color scheme a lot better before. brightness, cheery. how about some of that?
found this from tech crunch, what is this website about?
i m not much excited with this change… i think older one was better that this… Color combination is not so attractive especially #FFF154, making page unreadable and creating pain for eyes….!!
Anyway i m a fan of CrunchGear so digged it… ; )
The new design is great. Well done!
Awesome redesign, though not a big fan of yellow.
Perhaps allow the user to choose colors, using some CSS+cookie magic?
Overall a good improvement, just the sidebar is messy, but design is not finished yet, or?
I’m fairly new to this site, so I didn’t get much of a chance to experience the old look.
I agree the side bar does look a bit messy, but overall a good change-up.
Well done!
I don’t like it :( I fear change. The old layout flowed a lot more. It was more easy to navigate. Oh well Something like this won’t stop me from coming here!
wow cool..
The style looks nice, but I HATE all the extra crap around each post and each comment.
“Was this comment useful to you ?” takes up too much space.
and the whole “related posts” paragraph following each post is such a pain in the ass.
Please take it off crunchgear! Just add a search function and then if I wanted to find Related Posts, I could just effin search for them!!!
Plus I browse this all the time of my phone and the Related Posts thing will totally kill me! Scrolling on my blackberry is not THAT much fun Crunchgear!
This layout looks fantastic. Good job guys.
How about a “back to Crunchgear” button for after you submit a comment? Though I must say, you may have added that already in the new addition… so this is a test… here she goes….
well… only have to hit ‘back’ once now… instead of twice and feeling like you’ve undone your comment. So no big deal… I’ll shut up now. love the new look- better on the Kindle!
