I think you meant to say Opera Mini will LOCK your phone. The old version and new both have a tendency to lock up my phone where I can't even turn the power off, have to remove the battery.

Opera Mini's great, unless you're on a recent AT&T device, in which case it sucks unless you install a new java manager to get around their asinine security restrictions.

"For those of us who care about security and privacy this is a very, very bad step to take."

The same would go for your e-mail provider, your ISP, etc. At some point, you just have to trust someone. Opera Mini uses an encrypted connection.

"You give up all of your web privacy to this company that is not even based out of the U.S."

It is based out of Norway, which has even stricter privacy laws than the US. Not everything outside the US is chaos, you know.

" This means all of the privacy laws are not protecting your data."

They are. In addition to that, Opera probably has to follow US laws as well since they have offices there and do business there. So you are doubly protected.

"The browser might be faster, but you can consider all of the data you enter compromised. I like to think of this as a very well made phishing scam. Others may argue that opera is a reputable company, but what if someone were to compromise one of their servers. "

What if someone were to compromise your ISP's servers? If this applies to Opera, then it applies to everyone you deal with online.

I totally agree, Zac. But I don't ever use Opera Mini for anything personal other than browsing around during dead times.

I have it running on my Curve just fine and didn't have any problems installing it. My brother has it on his 8800 as well.

What carrier and bb plan are you on?

hmmmm... that is bothering. Too bad Opera Mini is a bitch to install on my BB. Yes, on my Blackberry it is hard to install Opera Mini. For some reason I need to change my APN/TCP settings, but none of the settings I try ever work. EVER.
So Mini can bite me. I roll with T-zones.

The problem I have with opera mini is the way it works. Basically it is a proxy server that resizes everything into a mobile friendly format. On the surface most people will not think much of it.

I do admit that I am paranoid and know too much about security. That stated, this really bothers me.
