The thing that Palm got right was the *UI*, the effortless HotSync, the Form Factor, and general Look-n-Feel. The OS underneath it was a pile of crap. But do users care? Nope. Give up on being an OS company - focus on creating good quality hardware and integrating it with Android. Perhaps work as well to create a layer that will enable Palm OS apps to work on Android. Palm is a little before my time (not to date you or anything :P) but I remember growing up and wanting a Palm of my own.
