To begin with, let me state that as a Wikipedia editor I am very biased.

However, I must disagree. The Knol project is completely different. Wikipedia is written collaboratively (nobody owns a page-it's a team effort). A Knol article will only have one author, and nobody else will be able to edit the page.

Furthermore, Wikipedia has its policies, such as NPOV (neutral point of view) and verifiability. Knol does not (and probably doesn't need) those.

I am not saying Knol is bad, but it is simply a completely different project.

Fair enough, John. As an American student, my job is to read journals then regurgitate the information when the test rolls around. I was referring to this one with the Saudi info: http://muse.jhu.edu/login?uri=/journals/social_text/v020/20.4mitchell.html

Actually, Saudi Arabia is using increasingly large amounts of oil and is starting to get worried about it! (See Saudi Demand for Saudi Oil Soars.)

The natural gas they had intended to use to propel industrialization in order to both move from a mono-product economy and to provide employment, hasn't come on line. Their use of oil is why they're looking for nuclear energy to feed their enormous electricity demands.
