I own three for various Canons with different sized sensors. They create true 3D images, not some kind of gimmick. You do need to use a viewer (essentially a stereoscope) or be able to free-view side-by-side 3D images. The lenses are nowhere near as good (obviously) as standard SLR lenses, but for 4x6 prints the quality is fine, and realistically it's pretty hard to view 3D images much bigger than that with a hand viewer.
