We have product to deal with this... and, since you need to separate the phone from ear while driving, why not advance the experience into the mobile media realm and get on-demand radio programming as well/

"Since when is the government in competition against Darwin? "

Since the dood who did it killed someone while driving. It's kinda like drunk drivers--they never die, but those they hit do. Also, keep in mind our city (Seattle) is the same one who told the guy stopping traffic while considering suicide to JUMP as he was slowing down our commute.

I'm surprised, is using your mobile phone whilst driving not a traffic offense already? I mean it kind of makes sense that if you're using your phone whilst trying to concentrate on driving you're probably going to pile your car into something you shouldn't.

I personally don't like talking on the phone whilst driving (via a handsfree kit of course) because it's distracting but to think that some people might try to text whilst driving?! Crazy.

Over here I think it's 3 points on your license and a £60 fine with up to £1000 fine if it goes to court and potentially disqualification. Someone I know recently got fined for using her phone whilst parked, she'd pulled over to answer it but left the engine running. Apparently the engine must be off. Sucks for her.

Since when is the government in competition against Darwin? I say we develop a national network of special highways where people who enjoy reading, texting and applying nail polish on their feet while driving can be in the company of like minded people. After a few days, our species will jump up a few notches on the IQ meter - insurance rates would drop and common sense can once again rule the day.
