What is a Histogram, why do I need it?

200712we_histogram1-thumb.jpgOver the last couple weeks I’ve been taking more photos and really immersing myself into the whole thing. It’s an area (DSLR) where I know very little, which is completely unacceptable from a geek’s perspective. I’m still reading and digesting this handy how to guide on histograms so I thought others could read along with me and the more advanced photogs in the crowd could drop in their thoughts in comments for us n00bs.

  • Actually, the article you linked to is very thorough and sums it up quite well! Nice find! It’s a good idea to make it a habbit of checking the histogram when out on the field — those little LCD displays can be deceiving sometimes and the histogram is a quick and (mostly)accurate way to check your metering — as the article had explained… when in doubt, “expose to the right.”
