What is a Histogram, why do I need it?

200712we_histogram1-thumb.jpgOver the last couple weeks I’ve been taking more photos and really immersing myself into the whole thing. It’s an area (DSLR) where I know very little, which is completely unacceptable from a geek’s perspective. I’m still reading and digesting this handy how to guide on histograms so I thought others could read along with me and the more advanced photogs in the crowd could drop in their thoughts in comments for us n00bs.

Actually, the article you linked to is very thorough and sums it up quite well! Nice find! It’s a good idea to make it a habbit of checking the histogram when out on the field — those little LCD displays can be deceiving sometimes and the histogram is a quick and (mostly)accurate way to check your metering — as the article had explained… when in doubt, “expose to the right.”
