Toshiba realizes their folly with HD DVD so they’re trying to make up for it with a wide variety of DVD players, portable DVD players and LCD TV/DVD combos. First up is the 22-inch widescreen LCD with 1680×1050 resolution and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. Response time is a blazing 5ms with HDMI and PC inputs as well as a thin chassis depth of 2.95-inches. It also supports WMA, MP3, JPEG and DiVX playback. The 19-inch model’s depth is a mere 2.64-inches and has the same specs. There’s also a white version. Yay!
The SD-6100 DVD player upconverts to 720p, 1080i/p and has HDMI along with REGZA Link (HDMI CEC) and digital cinema progressive scan. It even has ColorStream Pro component video out and DivX home theater certification.
The SD-4100 is an entry-level player with digital cinema progressive scan, ColorStream Pro component video out and supports JPEG, MP3, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R, and CD-RW. It’s really short in stature at 43mm.
DVD recorders were also announced today with high def upconversion capabilities and a one touch recording feature, which is nice, I think. The D-R410 single deck boasts 1080p upconversion via HDMI, REGZA Link and support for DVD-R/RW/+R/RW. A DV input is also available for use.
The D-R560 ups the ante with ATSC/NTSC tuners, WMA and DivX playback.
Perhaps the grandparents and/or anyone living under a rock may enjoy the comfort of a DVD recorder/VCR combo. The D-VR660 upconverts to 720p, 1080i/p via HDMI and includes ATSC/NTSC tuners with support for DVD-R/RW/+R/RW. It’s a 4 head Hi-Fi VCR that does bi-directional dubbing. The D-VR610 adds line input. Woohoo.
Chances are your laptop, if you have one, has a DVD drive, but if you don’t then maybe a portable DVD player is in your future. There are 7-, 9- and 10.2-inch models to suit everyone’s needs.
The SD-P101S is the big boy with a widescreen swiveling LCD with a 800×400 resolution. Battery life is said to be five hours and it has a 4-in-1 card slot for SD, MMC, MS and xD. It does digital cinema progressive scan output and is DivX home theater certified AND it comes with a car cord adapter.
The SD-P91S is the, you guessed it, 9-inch model with a swiveling LCD, dual headphone ports and everything else its big brother does.
For the cheapskate you may want to check out the 7-inch, SD-P71S, widescreen LCD with a rubberized black casing that has a ’solid feel’, but only musters up three hours of battery life.
