Hands down, one of the coolest things I’ve seen at CES so far this week is the Belkin Podcast Studio. It’s a handheld unit that you attach your iPod to. Using a pair of swiveling integrated microphones on each side, the device records what they hear in stereo as an uncompressed WAV on to the iPod. You can even control the pitch and volume, as well as the stereo balance.
Besides the integrated mics, the Podcast Studio has dual XLR and 1/4-inch microphone jacks at the top, so you can use your own high-end gear.
It’s not for everyone, but the idea impresses.

Any release date? It looks like a must have
Oops. Got some drool on my keyboard.
If you get one of those as a freebie, you can send it my way…
The radio and podcast producer side of me just quivered a bit when checking this out. Nice.
The XLR ports and audio inputs makes this device almost perfect for a DAT in a low budget motion picture. With an standar 80gb ipod classic, a good dinamic microphone, and a one-man audio crew, this is clearly a winner.
WAV files are BIG, and they demand lots of spinning from the hard disk. That spinning makes a little noise, which is amplified in the final recording, unfortunately. Most mics for HD-based iPods have failed so far (just check their reviews), so, while I like the idea; I would seriously wait for many real users to review this thing. After spending some hundreds of bucks on iPod-based solutions, I’m sticking to the ugly digital mics from panasonic (or whatever the co. built them). That is, until someone gets the user reviews raving.
Disk noise not an issue with iPod Nanos.
