While Sony and its PS3 may benefit from Warner’s decision to support Blu-ray, Microsoft doesn’t think its HD DVD-playing Xbox 360 will take any significant hit. A Microsoft marketing manager said he doesn’t “think… this has a significant impact on Xbox 360 versus PlayStation 3.” The manager then reminded us that while DVD playback may have been an initial boon for the PS2 so many years ago, in the long-term, DVD playback wasn’t crucial to the console’s success. Back then, the PS2 was king, while the 360 seems to be this generation’s go-to system (aside from the entirely different Wii).
This shouldn’t be surprising, given Bill Gates’ attitude toward high-def discs. (He thinks we’ll all eventually download our high-def content and that discs are strictly a temporary storage medium and delivery mechanism.)
And for the gamer, none of that matters. Give me a solid library, which the 360 has, and I’m all set; Blu-ray/HD DVD/whatever is completely irrelevant.

You know why HD won’t effect the 360? Because the HD-DVD drive doesn’t come standard with the 360. Which means, all of the games for the 360 have to be fit on a DVD that isn’t HD…so…non-HD….so….not cool.
But PS3 requires HD goodness because Blu-Ray is all it’s got.
Am I making sense? Too much OT….

That’s where you’re wrong. Have you ever played a game on an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc? Probably not, if you have an Xbox 360 b/c it can’t play those types of disks for games,
Also, have you have tried copying or downloading a HD movie, and storing it on your Xbox 360 (chances are, probably not since the hard drive isn’t that big)? I don’t want my PS3 hard drive full of Blu-Ray movies that can be HUGE and take up all the space, eventhough I can put ANY hard drive in it, 360 users can’t do that. Aww too bad
Fact is Xbox 360 has been out since 11/2005 in the US. Doesn’t it make sense for 360 to have a massive library? So, it’s been out a whole year before the PS3 came out in 11/2006.
You’re so awesome, PS3 Owner. I wish you well on all your future endeavors.

I think your missing the point. When Bill Gates said we will eventually be downloading HD movies, he wasn’t talking about the xbox 360, he was referring to the public in general. Meaning instead of going to the store and buying a disc, you will simply be able to download it through your TV or set top box etc. Just like music is now, and some movies to a limited extent.
Blu ray and HD DVD will still be a usefull storage media, but don’t expect this to be the new format for the next 20 years. All that is needed is more bandwidth. Technology wise, everything else is already here.
I really don’t understand all this fighting over the format when it’s not going to be around that long anyways.
I agree with the author. Just keep on pumping out the great games. I don’t care about movies and which format they will be on. If I ever decide to get a HD player, I will buy a separate player.. not play it on my video game system.
Yeah now that HD DVD is dead basically Microsoft is saying things like that. Sony just fuck them real bad, Xbox 360 games will all have to fit in old DVD from the 90s Sony will have better looking games with way more features cuzz Blu-ray Disc Developers will soon let Microsoft know that regular DVD is not even close to true next gen HD. This year Microsoft is gonna as company Sony, Google, Linux, Apple Computers will be the cuzz. Can’t wait to see Xbox 360 owners drooling over Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII, God of War 3, Little Big Planet, Singstar, Haze, inFAMOUS, Uncharted 2, and HOME the Xbox Live killer the service that will destroy Microsoft’s robbing service Live. PS3 will always better than Xbox 360 at everything.
