We had a Drobo and Drobo share for a few months now, we had 1.3TB of data on the 4-1TB drives installed (2.6TB available). One night , for no apparent reason it decided to double the amount of used space all by itself to 2.6TB. It now reads full, top drive is RED and we can't access it. Drobo has sent a new Drobo share, y cord and now a new Drobo but the problem still exists. Now that they are available we can get a 1.5TB drive and swapout the 1tb on the top.....but It doesn't explain why the Drobo doubled it load overnight in the first place. Its also a $350 investment and may not fix anything.
Level 4 support is working with us but seems a little confused about the problem.

The DROBO advantage is to use multiple RAID configurations and swapping of dissimiliar HDD's, e.g. 250, 500, 750, 1,000GB will provide 1.5TB on DROBO. It configures itself on the fly. With all other devices there is more wasted space, and the user has to fight reconfigs, etc.

There is just one small problem, that $200 is just for the USB to ethernet converter. To get the drobo to work as a NAS you are looking at around $700 and thats whithout any drives. At that price they are competing with much higher quality products with a known history in the NAS market.
